I don't think you appreciate that the EU is a dynamic entity,with many forms throughout its existence, a rejection of earlier forms doesn't follow from a rejection of the current,and attendant teleology.

It started as a civil war helped along by the EU waving potential membership at them. So we're up to 4 conflicts in Europe since the main unpleasantness.
Not that great a record. We can also add the fact there was NATO and the Warsaw Pact squaring off at each other in Germany for 45 years.
NATO was the only thing stopping Ivan coming west and NATO means America.

IRA, ETA, Brigado Rossi, Baader Meinhoff, that's before you get to Czechoslavakia, Bosnia, recent terror attacks, it isn't peace, therehave been prices paid with lives. You see the collapse of economies and countries as peaceful?

Dictatorial existence doesn't need a single figurehead, it needs a system. The EU operates a system of corporate fascism, by Mussolini's definition. It all boils down to interpretation and what the individual is prepared to relinquish for luxury and comfort and distance from the fallout suffered by the less fortunate
