personally, i reckon this talk of population is a distraction from the bigger culprits, namely made-in-china industry, and these plastic-producing monstrosities:

nur 20 riesenfirmen produzieren mehr als die hälfte aller plastikmüll...100 firmen produzieren mehr als 90% aller solcher müll...
That's quite interesting. Still, we're plastic consuming monstrosities.

This offshore, short-lived plastic crap is what's kept inflation low and goods affordable whilst wages have pretty much stagnated since the sixties. It's systemic.

Nice of Johnson to fly to Cornwall for a key meeting including climate change. They really are taking the piss.

Huge chunks of the western USA will be without water soon. Then it will really kick off, with crazy talk about invading Canada. It will happen.
Do you use a water toilet? Circa 6600gallons per year each to pollute somewhere else. Just as crazy as the manicured lawns.

Of course. I'm not saying I'm not part of the problem. That said, I have a well and all the water that is pumped up basically drains back into the aquafer below.

But as to your point of "just as crazy as the manicured lawns" I'm gonna have to disagree. People flush their toilets due to hygiene and other reasons (e.g., smell), but no one needs an over-watered, over-fertilized monoculture called a lawn as far as I'm concerned.

Soz mate, what I wrote could be interpreted as a go at you, it wasn't, it's just a crazy amount of (usually) drinking water and fertility being wasted and discharged as a pollutant -especially in a drought stricken area.

I'm giving non-flushing toilets considerable thought, and they only smell if one's not careful with the C-N ratio, many commercial solutions are satisfactorily installed indoors.

There will be a dry toilet invented soon, that you do a poo into, and it parcels it up neatly, dry, ready for the next one then they are disposed of in the garden or a composter. Paper materials will break down also. A toilet that uses 1/100th of the water...

Infact maybe I should invent it..

They are already out there mate, well, except the nice neat parcel.

But you hit on the key issue - composting. That's essential to eradicate pathogens. Most commercial 'compost toilets' don't compost, that's an additional step, which is done onsite or dealt with like a septic tank.

I imagine a lot of our sewage network needs replacing, treatment plants only have around a 30yrs lifespan and the ones I've seen are older than that, and I haven't seen any new ones around newbuilds. No wonder the water companies release direct when they can, and our shellfish are too contaminated to export.
