That’s 18-21 year olds. Not that many of them have broken through yet
Foden Sancho Bellingham have, and Southgate is already coaching them, Players like Aarons, sessegnon, Hudson-odoi on the cusp, then some more coming through in 2-3 years.

And Southgate is the man for the FA to waste this group.

Bravo FA.

Yes but you can’t slate the manager for wasting a generation when hardly any of them are in his squad

How's he wasting them? Sancho started most of the qualifiers for this tournament and the Nation's League games, Bellingham got fast tracked for his debut based on his blistering debut season at Dortmund, Foden is a fixture in every squad and gets game time

We had 2 teams from those age groups winning world cups, where have you been mate?

Technical directors at the German FA before those Worlds cup even said that England had the best talent in the world born from 2000-2003, and overhauled their grassroots to mirror ours.

A big reason why German clubs a poaching English talent the last 2-3 seasons.
That’ll be it.

DCL was pants
Pickford was a mixed bag
Godfrey a decent debut
England look crap
There were positives to take from the game too. I thought Pickford's distribution was excellent, Saka was very bright, Rice controlled the midfield until he went off. If he stays fit he'll play 90 minutes of every game. Bellingham is a superstar in the making. Grealish made things happen.

In a tournament Austria would have 2/3 bookings in the first 15 minutes and would have had to curtail their tactics. Plus we have about 6 starters to bring into last nights squad plus as many options from the bench.

Agreed considering that was nowhere near the first 11 and Austria are decent I thought things went quite well yesterday.

DCL looked terrible, appart from his massive leap.

Godfrey looked terrible too....put that one down to nervs.

Pickford made some good saves....but when he comes running out to punch, wow.

Do you really think so Billy?.

James, TAA, Rice, Bellingham. Mount, Sancho, Foden, Saka and Greenwood (who would have been in the squad if fit) are all 22 or under. And in the age group just above there are players like Henderson, Chilwell, Shaw, Grealish, Rashford and DCL. That's two thirds of a squad that are, in theory, still to hit their prime. It's by far the youngest England squad I can remember, and by a big margin too.

I'm not saying Southgate will utilise them to the best of their ability, but you can't accuse him of not selecting our youngsters. There are more I would have chosen too. Godfrey and Tomori are better options than either Coady or Mings and I'd definitely have found room for Maddison in a bloated 26 man squad. But apart from those 3 I don't think you can put a solid argument in for any other youngster who has been overlooked.

He will play Foden, Bellingham etc as you say, but Mr Waistcoat will also play Coady & Henderson in the middle who can't pass to save their lives, hence
negating all the superb ability & creativity that they have. We have one of the most technically gifted England squads for a long, long time and we'll end up playing for set pieces and free kicks as we always do. Criminal.

Yeah I agree mate totally. It was more addressing the accusations that he’s ruined the 2000-03 generation which I think is a bit premature when only a few of them are at senior level so far.

Ah ok.

I don't think Southgate will take full advantage of the talent he has available to him because he will be too negative. But yeah, you can't turn around and say they've been ruined. The one good thing I like about him is that he does give young players an opportunity. Some aren't up to International football and go by the wayside. But others take to it and will become better players for it.
