Looks like we will need to find a new opener, Lyth's just not good enough, time to give Hayles his debut at Trent Bridge I reckon especially as it's his home ground.

He said himself before this test that this was probably his last chance to impress, he's had 10 innings' now, only got over 40 once I think.

i know when they went over possible replacements in the last test the candidate list was all a bit poor. not sure hales is what we need/good enough for tests. done alright this season in 4 day like, but i'd rather we just keep him to the shorter form games.

Would be a brave decision playing Hayles, it worked for the Aussies with Warner who was very much a one day player when he first got picked, I think he is what we need somebody to score quickly whilst Cook digs in, he's a right hander as well which is useful with Cook being a leftie.

like i said yesterday, we have bell, root, stokes, buttler, ali and broad who all score quickly. we need another rock for cook, ala trott in my honest opinion. the way cricket is going with kids growing up watching T20 - none of the test teams are going to be batting long periods anymore - would like us to be a bit different in that aspect.
