England v Australia - THE ASHES

Not a cricket fan, but couldn't the Aussies have put us in to bat again because we never got enough to avoid the follow-on, but they decided (rightly) to bat instead.
Yes they could have put us in again and invariably that is what used to happen. These days the choice is often to bat again and pile up the runs whilst giving their bowlers a rest to get ready for the second innings. On this occasion Aus should have put us again and finished it off yesterday. You don't need fresh bowlers when bowling against England's pathetic rabble.

Dear me that was shocking from England. They may be 'new' England with their approach but old habits die hard. It looks like the scars of previous Ashes battles inflicted by Johnson & Co have been re-opened, which could have telling impact on the rest of the series.

Excellent from England that, lulling the Aussie's into a false sense of security.

That's the only reasonable explanation for that performance.

Just woke up and saw the result...that was an old fashioned 'down trou', pantsing.
Now that Haddin has been dropped, my enmity toward the Aussie cricket team has greatly diminished. But I was still kind of hoping England might win the Ashes; looks unlikely now. In my experience, supporting a sport's team that contains 7 letters, starts with an E and ends in a consonant, is fraught with disappointment.

Thoughts...

Very average England team. Only Haddin's idiotic moment in the first test stopped a similar result and keeps them in the series.

But still, anything can happen at 1-1.

No no no, you can't just swan in and out of this thread after a good couple of days for Aussie :P

I think they are average. If they win the series it will be the same feeling I had after the 2013 Ashes series in England. They won't win a match in the return series in Australia with this team.
Good luck to them. The Haddin moment changed the momentum of this series. Should have been over already.
But at 1-1 it is anyone's to win or bottle.

I like most sports, horsey sports don't really appeal but apart for them I'm a fan. I do struggle with the fact that in cricket one side can be soundly beaten and the result is a draw. I know we are not American and a draw can be a very good result, but surely not when one side scores more than the other.
In football one side can be completely outplayed and win. Happens a lot.

Simply awful bowling, and batting - changes need to be made, but they will play the same 11 who at least three need dropping - Anderson Bell Ballance, and maybe that baldly opener all past it or useless, but you watch it will be the same old useless team the MCC way!

It is going to take 2/3 players to turn it around full circle again. The middle order is a massive strength of ours and if they can just get a couple of innings with a good base then they could destroy teams, imagine Root & Stokes in at 200+/4. That is possibly with Buttler & Ali to come in as well.

Cook needs a partner that will complement him, score at a decent pace and allow him to play his natural game. Root needs to be in at 3.

Bell, Balance & Lyth are playing with fear at the moment, get some players in that play with no fear and we see a completely different side. The confidence running through the one day side is good and we need to harness that as best we can in the test environment.
