whilst looking at slow mo replays yes. play it at full speed and it's a pretty standard reaction if someone is throwing a ball at possibly 90 miles an hour at your head. complete guesswork from the umpires and they would have been better off with siding on the caution of doubt. if the throw was low at the base of the stumps like someone competent would have done then yes.

Yes it could have gone either way and was not clear cut. I just don't think the 3rd umpire can be castigated for interpreting it in the way he did, or that it was outrageous or any similar description, as some commentators would have us believe.
 
If the ball was going on to hit the stumps well maybe yes but the thied umpire should have checked it was going to miss so whats the point?

New rules introduced a little while back, you can't intrude on the ball when it's aimed at the stumps, or change the direction you're running in (ie run in front of the stumps to protect them).
