A two minute summary!
The fact remains that practically all of their profits come from the carbon credits they get from other car companies. There's no way on earth they're worth the money they're currently valued at. I don't think people are saying they're not a decent, mid-rank car company, but the fact that they're the most valuable company on the planet is due to Musk hype.

To put things into perspective a bit. The price/earnings ratio at Ford is currently 6.56. At VW it's 4.41. At Tesla, even with the fall in their share price this year, it's 60.37. Utterly bonkers.
The product is excellent? I’ve never driven one so I’ll take your word, but I have read a lot of reports of cheap materials and spontaneous combustion. Neither are high on my luxury car wish list tbf.
Well, I've driven Model X, Model 3 and Model 3 Performance extensively and bought a Model Y - and the build quality is excellent, the materials are certainly not cheap, and the stories of spontaneous combustion are grossly exaggerated.
