Mind yer own beeswax, Musk! Haven't you got a new job starting soon in your own country?
I suggest you set about preparing for that and leave other countries alone.

Ah history. And a sprinkling of maths. Let's go...!

For almost three decades, the small fleet of jets kept flying — and shattering records. In 1996, a British Airways Concorde crossed from New York to London in just 2 hours 52 minutes and 59 seconds, which to this day is the fastest trans-Atlantic crossing by a passenger plane.

tbc

The shortest distance (air line) between New-York and London is 3,461.34 mi

So, supersonic airliner covered the distance in 3 hours. Let's call it 3,500 miles. So ~3,500 miles in 3 hours = 1166.667 mph

OK

Let's very kindly afford the tunnel the same distance, but in a similar kind single hour, not the 52 minutes bragged about = 3500mph.
Forget the 'Bullet' train (oh how I wish I could mr Pitt) (only 200mph) the prototype fastest commercial train on the planet is the Chinese CR450 which allegedly can travel at 450 km/ph = 280mph.

3500/280 = 12.5

So, keksius maximus is going to dig a tunnel (in spite of ocean bed terrain and geology) and at the same time advance technology 12.5 times beyond current capability and deliver this for the change in his pocket?

I thought trump was a mad man with his Mexican wall 'who's gonna pay!' shouts and big ideas like 'injecting bleach intravenously', but it appears the real big dreamer was sat on the bench awaiting his big moment after all.

People used to get sectioned for such outbursts. And these two are leading the apparent most powerful country in the world. Well played humanity, what a shambles.
Just to add,

The current land speed record is 1997's 'Thrust SSC' setting of 763mph, but really this is academic. Besides (3500mph) being over 4.5 times the current record, some other factors need considering, G force and the requirement for passengers to wear pressure suits, insuring the passengers and any medical conditions they have (blood pressure, previous stroke, heart attack etc) then there is the new frontier of a vehicle breaking the sound barrier as well as operating on presumably a rail in a tunnel. Besides any resonance or associated shock in the system, the vehicle will need to slow, it's rate of acceleration have to comply with survivable g forces, and how would you calculate the safety factor? It would be easier operating such a vehicle in a vacuum (like space for instance) and then bearing wear and fuel for the journey needs calculating. Imagine breaking down half way, who's walking 1,750 miles in an unheated sub ocean tunnel with no natural light and potentially very little air.
