Twitter icon is now Doge

1 of 2 things:
He owns a ton of it and need fools to take him to the moon or,
It was supposed to be an April fools and his company is a joke.

NEW YORK, March 31 (Reuters) - Elon Musk asked a U.S. judge on Friday to throw out a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing him of running a pyramid scheme to support the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. In an evening filing in Manhattan federal court, lawyers for Musk and his electric car company Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) called the lawsuit by Dogecoin investors a "fanciful work of fiction" over Musk's "innocuous and often silly tweets" about Dogecoin.
..
Investors accused Musk, the world's second-richest person according to Forbes, of deliberately driving up Dogecoin's price more than 36,000% over two years and then letting it crash. They said this generated billions of dollars of profit at other Dogecoin investors' expense, even as Musk knew the currency lacked intrinsic value.

Investors also pointed to Musk's appearance on a "Weekend Update" segment of NBC's "Saturday Night Live" where, portraying a fictitious financial expert, he called Dogecoin "a hustle."The $258 billion damages figure is triple the estimated decline in Dogecoin's market value in the 13 months before the lawsuit was filed.

Surely the judge isn't gonna take this nonsense well?

You might wanna stay away from Telegram and Truth Social. The balance is a little off over there.
agreed.

i''ve been on right-leaning platforms and find they can be quite hateful & distasteful...even inhumane. This sour taste oftens poisons whatever sound logic they have on the big issues of the day.

Left-leaning platforms can also be quite rabid, tho' arguably a little less inhumane. The dominant views on these platforms are however more illogical when it comes to the big issues.

Just my take...in these polarised times platforming centre-weighted discussion is a bit of a pipedream. At least the likes of Elon, Russell Brand, Joe Rogan etc are trying...and proving to be very popular...so the appetite is there!

Elon Musk's buyout & control of Twitter has been a net-plus for free speech.
You know, there was a time, when people believed that the internet would be a great source of good in this world. The traditional state propaganda media would no longer be able to dictate news narratives and the people would be able to control and influence this. However, as this would be considered a direct threat to autocracies and ruling classes, social media platforms were very quickly flooded with nonsensical information, driven by this illusion of ‘free speech’ leading to not a more intelligent or intellectual population as was first imagined in those utopian visions, but to a population choosing to believe whatever insane theory they wish with mountains of ‘evidence’ to back this up.
The end result of this almost comedic, farcical spiral being a poster called @dholliday promoting the benefits of using donkey lotion to treat serious disease on a football forum.

The highlights:

In the week beginning October 31, the first full week under Musk’s ownership, there were:

  • 26,228 tweets and retweets mentioning the slur n**ger, triple the 2022 average
  • 33,926 tweets and retweets mentioning the slur tra**y, up 53% on the 2022 average
  • 21,903 tweets and retweets mentioning the slur fa**ot, up 39% on the 2022 average
  • 2,598 tweets and retweets mentioning the slur k*ke, up 23% on the 2022 average
  • 1,256 tweets and retweets mentioning the slur w*g, up 62% on the 2022 average
  • 935 tweets and retweets mentioning the slur sp*c, up 67% on the 2022 average
The figures show that despite claims from Twitter’s Head of Trust and Safety, Yoel Roth, that the platform had succeeded in reducing the number of times hate speech was being seen on Twitter’s search and trending page, the actual volume of hateful tweets has spiked.

do you trust that Organisation you are quoting? Do you know anything about them? Do you know what they do, and why? Do you know who funds them?

Personally, i would take anything they say with a massive pinch of salt...for it has agenda written all over it.

On the first line - yes, in fact recently the source code was leaked and it showed it downplays any kind of non-right wing platforms. The fact he keeps unbanning them for violating said rules is also a very good hint. "Free speech that Elon Musk agrees with" is much more accurate.

On the second - yeah, he famously also didn't stop and attacked Musk. He'd have been banned much later if he hadn't.

On the third - this is exactly what Musk's twitter is doing and it's utterly wild anyone can't see that lol

On the "most hate" - just follow anyone with MAGA or a Trump photo quoting and owning "libtards" and calling most/any of the lgbt community pedos, or saying how women just should've not been whores instead of wanting abortions. Even with rape cases. In fact, or any of the Trump family. Or just go on there and say the 3 magic words - "Hunter Biden laptop" - and it'll show you what's actually trendy.

Elon has absolutely given homophobes and racists a great platform to shout down at anyone, true. This isn't balance, it's promotion of intolerance for the sake of clicks.

This isn't "equality" or "free speech", it's just whatever will get clicks and whatever Musk can profit off of. Sure, it's a way a business should work, whatever, but this isn't a business - it's a platform that gives a lot of fake information and doesn't really stop abuse. His true character showed when, as soon as he got into any sort of social sway/power, he started BS-ing and pandering to the right more and more lol

I know what you'll say to all of this - "it's just allowing a balance", but this isn't a balance, and it never will be with him. It's profiteering at best, immoral at worst.

Coupled with the copious greedy lies and people actually drinking his kool aid - he's the furthest from the word "balance" you can get.
i disagree as I think you're weighting your focus where it needn't be...but appreciate long posts so a deffo like x

Sure, that's even worse than what I expected as an answer, you're welcome I guess.

It's not my focus that's weighing down, it's just the reality of it - it's not free speech for everyone, it's free speech for the far-right agenda. Imagine how it'd go if I said the things he/his fanboys say to people for example here? Cuz I've been banned for much less, without even wishing rape on anyone.

But so it goes, "free speech".

lol

As opposed to Musk stroking his own cock live on Twitter and saying how great he is. No agenda there at all. lol

I mean, the UN are concerned as well, so yeah...

agenda.

What about similar spikes in pre-Elon times? How many hate-comments were from bots? Where did these bots come from? Why is there a media-focus on the supposed-increase of such language on Twitter when there wasn't before.

Looking at those spikes, they seem artificial and bot-led.

More interesting is musing why the Establishment and left-leaners are so anti-Elon. It's as if he's replaced Trump as a regular figure-to-hate.
