Electric car advice

I've been looking and researching vehicles for a few months and I'm now waiting on a new Peugeot 2008 petrol which I've got on order with Stellantis, but they have EV, Hybrid and GT options available.

It's well worth looking into and it's a lovely looking vehicle.

As I mentioned, a friend got the 5008 GT petrol-hybrid (the only option available here other than full-EV) as the model came out. It's quite a nice drive, I suspect the 2008 will be also. She's got the top GT trim and all the bells and whistles are boss - massage seats, heated/vented seats and steering wheel, etc.. If you drive a lot or long distances those are amazing to have.

As someone who also owns a Stellantis car (and did so before, too), I don't trust Stellantis petrol/hybrids. The puretech 1.2L is/was crap up until recently and they've abandoned all the diesel options. But maybe it's just me disliking their earlier designs, so far it seems to be going okay.

Why 2008, if you don't mind me asking? I find them in that weird spot where both 2008 and 3008 are trying to be SUVs or jack of all trade-type cars, but just about fail at all of it by a bit.

I chose the latest 2008 for a few reasons really. As you probably know, Puretech engines were massively flawed because of the wet belt but have now gone back to chain on the new models, otherwise I'd have given it a miss.

Also I don't like big SUV's but wanted something a bit higher off the ground so the new breed of crossovers are catering for the likes of me I suppose.

I considered other crossovers like the Ford Puma, Vauxhall Mokka, MG etc but the 2008 just ticked boxes for me. The drive and overall build quality feels nicer in my humble opinion than those others I mentioned. I'm a sucker for looks as well and the new 2008 upgrade more than suffices in that area. Inside and out, it all feels well thought out and nicely designed.

Well the Mokka is the same platform so...

But yeah that makes sense, it's just not my thing - as I said here I view it more as a utility, so the 308SW ticks those boxes for me - comfort/reliability and more space. I used to have a proper 4x4 and I get the need for clearance, but this is just not enough personally - not a 4x4, not high off the ground enough and not enough space to justify the "SUV" tag. But again, that's me, and I can see the value of them if it's what you're after.

Saw they're going back to chain but it's still the 1.2 PureTech so it'll take a while for the reputation to fade I guess. Build quality for the newer Peugeot's I can't fault, everything that's not the cheapest trim feels great or at least good enough, GT trims feel very, very nice. The cheapest trims feel like a FIAT, for lack of better comparison  I testdrove a 301 in the lowest interior trim and you can definitely tell

Picked my Tesla model 3 performance up on Saturday. Really impressed so far but still lots to get used to. It's unbelievabley quick, think it's 3.1 0-60 and it's an instant hit. Don't think I'll get bored of that for a while.

I've got home charging, so 7.9p a kWh after midnight. My car should do between 3 and 4 miles per kWh so about 2p a mile.

If you can charge from home I'd deffo recommend one.

Make sure you use the preconditioning section on the mobile phone app religiously as it works brilliantly to protect the battery from premature degradation 👍👍

How do I do that? If I schedule to charge at quarter past midnight will it do
Go into the Tesla app, and select Schedule.
Go into Charging and you can set it to charge the car specifically for the cheap rate hours your electric provider offers. I’m with Octopus and get 7p per KWh from 11.30pm to 5.30am every night.

Also in Schedule, go into Precondition and there you can set the car to prepare to drive at your preferred time.
For example, if you leave home at the same time each morning say 7.45am, set that time and then when you get into the car, it’ll be warmed up to the temperature you set the AC to, the battery will be ‘warmed up’ ready to drive efficiently and all your windows will be clear of snow, ice, or internal condensation.

You set the precondition for a different time for every day of the week… this is great if you don’t have a regular schedule for leaving home 👍

Another useful tip is on cold mornings… don’t turn your blower on full blast to make the car toasty warm… use the heated seats and heated steering wheel as they don’t use as much battery power as the blower !!
