eighth might be enough?

Shows you the standard of BBC journalism these days. Morons.

If you look at the article, you'll see this paragraph at the bottom;

Liverpool are currently in seventh place in the Premier League, but could conceivably win the competition this season, automatically qualifying for next year.

In context, it's completely out of place. Earlier it went on to say rivals Everton will qualify in 8th place, should that occur.

Yes I agree, and I saw myself Danny. I'm commenting about the misreporting.

And the fact the monkey's still have got that section with the "automatic qualification" in.

ok.
there was a hour long radio programe on it last night. if im wrong ill buy you a season ticket.

Our chances of achieving a place in the Europa League are not affected by the RS winning it. Firstly the 7th placed team will qualify for next season's EL - obviously we might hope that is us (finishing above the RS). Should it be the other way round their winning it would not open up an extra place. So, you can rest assured that, in the event of them reaching the final we won't benefit from their doing so.. which means you can happily cheer on the opponents. The guarantee of a place for non-prequalified winners applies. So, in simple terms the winners get given an extra place if they fail to qualify via their domestic league (or domestic cup competitions).

do you reckon this lid will pay up dan ?

Supporting Liverpool...

Amazing, I thought that title would get a good response. Reading that if Liverpool win the Europa League, the extra place would go to 8th place, which would be good enough for us. I find myself, even though I've never had this urge before, and might actually be sick upon watching them, supporting them tonight against Atletico. Only until we get drawn together in the group stages next year and we smash them good and proper. Thoughts?

I'll be supporting Fulham instead.

The BBC got it wrong sir.

That's not the case.

Yup.

Only place open for Europe this year is 5th, 6th, and 7th.

Any team that wins the Europa League but are already in a position to be in the Europa League next season, wont open a further place in that teams domestic league.

The only reason why 7th is a Europa League place is because of the FA Cup. Chelsea are in the Champions League and that Portsmouth, outside the Europa League place, have been rejected from entering the competiton so the place goes the league.

I think.

NO IT WILL NOT.

STOP POSTING THESE STUPID THREADS.

Even if Everton's place did depend on it - I'd rather do without.

We'll just have to win the Fair Play League, if that's the case. And that with Fellaini in our ranks. Who dares to say we haven't made any progress this season?:P

Anyone know how this actually works and how we are doing in it?! I'm still undecided if a season not in Europe may actually be a good thing....hmmmm
