I think it's fair to question the mentality of the club and his ability but you don't play in the EPL at 40 without having great motivation and appetite. Just look at his availability.
Very underwhelming. There has to be better utility players available on a free in the summer that have more motivation, appetite and ability than Young. He'll be 40 years of age and he's been offered another contract with a premier league team. Not the mentality of a top club in any capacity.

This is the kind of cryarsing we’re in for all summer, mate. I don’t disagree at all that it’s an underwhelming move, but if the dust settles and he’s been re-signed as a fit, handy utility man and allowed us to spend wisely in other areas then I’d go so far as to say it’s a good move.

If we kick off at the Hilly Dicko with him starting at RB then I’ll bell @Paul E and we’ll walk into the Mersey together.

I get why many don’t want Young and Coleman to re-sign.

As it stands we have 12 contracted players post June. That includes Patterson who doesn’t appear up to it and Beto. It also includes Chermiti and Irogbaneum both of which could probably do with a loan out.

That would leave 8 players. We need at least 20 outfield players.

I’m neutral but most us want to sign at least 5 first teamers and we will need at leart a further 5-6 squad players. Coupled with losing (the sense) home advantage for a period of time it could go horribly wrong at the start of next season as we are going to be asking a number of players to gel very quickly. If we sign players from abroad they may take longer to settle.

This will take a few transfer windows and the advantage of Young is that he will accept a short term deal and be prepared to sit on the bench.

I struggle a bit with Coleman as his injuries appear to have caught up with him.

All good points.

I think both Coleman and Young are being retained because of the reasons you give.
Helping a new squad to gel together.

3 gone . Both back up keepers . I reckon the younger one wants to actually play now and I don’t blame him . Just need to replace them . I remember the old days where we bought 2 young keepers every window. After all that money spent , do we not have one keeper that may do a job slinking about in the reserves ?

No word on Sir Keaneth , DCL or Gana yet ?

Tryer is decent but would prefer him to go on loan again to keep playing games.
Also have a couple of other promising keepers a bit younger but wouldn't be having them on the bench yet.
I assume we'll bring in another begovic type as back up.

Is it a forgone conclusion that the three confirmed as leaving will be the only ones leaving, or is it normal not to announce them all at once?

CBA with DCL, Docoure and Keane all getting new contracts.

I’ve no desire to keep any of them but I understand we’re in a period of transition and I can envisage why a manager could see value in resigning all three .

If we’re negotiating with Keane and Doucoure they need significant wage cuts to reflect their actual value to the club. Keane’s 80k p/w needs slashing in half whilst Doucoure, according to two different player salary sites, is our top earner on £130k p/w. Again, he’s worth about half that based on what he actually provides.

Honestly don’t really want either to stay.

Would like both DCL and Gana to stay, but sadly think both will leave and we’ll end up with the two I don’t want staying.

How insulting you left Holgate off the vote 😆
