Is it really £300k a week?
He was more of a poacher. He worked really hard for the team but there are a lot of mile on the clock. Is going to be more Falcao than Zlatan. He's a poacher with no legs, and he's never the freak athlete the Swedish fella is so he won't be an effective target in the box.
Will score the odd goal but won't make a big impact, they'll be desperate to get him off the books by next summer. Definitely doesn't look like a Solskjaer-type signing, Woodward all over this. A wannabe football manager who runs United like he's playing FIFA.
Yer thats spot on imoOnce you give a player that much cash it's going to be Christmas for them. Short term deal, end of career, zero chance of winning anything with ole at the wheel.
Cavani the new Falcao?
They were already relatively strong in the forward line with Rashford, Greenwood and Martial, other areas are the problem.
Defence always was by far their weakest point, the central positions especially. While Maguire has been poor his partners have been a level or seven worse than that. Smalling not the greatest on the ball but possibly better than what they have at defending was let go and no centre back signed. The purpose of the transfer window is to concentrate on and strengthen your weakest points, centre half being the obvious one. Strengthening where you're already strong means your weakest points will still undermine you.
Telles a full back will replace Shaw, who tbh isn't the worst player - that's not really achieving the desired results.
Liverpool a season or three ago, were decent but always undermined by their weakest points, the centre backs in Lovren and Matip and the goalkeepers in Mignolet and the calamity that was Karius. They made strengthening their weakest points the priority, not attack but centre half and keeper. Van Dijk and Alisson transformed them into something nearing unbeatable, they didn't target strikers what's the point! United have signed a striker, hopeless.
The window has been a total mess for United, Cavani won't keep any goals out he won't shore up the weakest parts, it smacks of a big name last minute panic, the guy had been available on a free for weeks, perhaps his age, almost 34 and wages meant he wasn't wanted elsewhere.
He's been a top player in the highest bracket and will add experiences and winning mentality but he won't make them harder to beat, less vulnerable or more likely to do well. They have to target their signings to address the biggest weaknesses, it's common sense.
A poor, poor window, no leadership, no direction, no plan
In place of who though? He's a great striker. Good purchase I reckon. I wouldn't have minded seeing him pitch up at Goodison but not for that salary.
Bolded> they are forwards but Man U didn't have any striker, a slotter for a loong time, Cavani will provide that. But I agree they have no plan and panic buying often
