ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

You've got hold of the wrong end of the stick then. I wasn't suggesting FSG were seeking to grow the club organically and rely on spending earnings from it rather than investing; I was pointing out that stadium restructuring is a pre-requisite for flogging the club to new owners with deeper pockets.

That's why they've gone for redevelopment: it costs less than a new stadium and can recoup a bit for them with it's corporate box emphasis which will offset any spending they will be making.

It's a cosmetic exercise because they know new owners wont want to step into a minefield of stadium redevelopment still needing to be got off the ground and all the politics that go hand in hand with it.

They basically have Hicks and Gillett's plans of develop and sell on.

But why should redeveloping, to say nothing of a new stadium, be a minefield? They own most of the properties in question anyway, the rest are situated in one of the cheapest property markets in the country, and the local council accede to their every whim. Yet it is that issue that did for Moores, did for Yanks I in the main, and is scaring off potential buyers apparently. Could it be that, in fact, the situation of the club is such that the sums dont and will never add up?

The comical thing now is that the stuff gnashers has been praised for in the past (tactical flexibility) is now a stick to beat him with.

It's a textbook flip-flop and it's at the expense of someone who richly deserves it because he's the one who's been highlighting his own tactical chopping and changing.

It's quite superb. The amount of hubris being suffered is astonishing.

Who's fault is it today Dave?

Re: FA Cup or 4th place

I've never invited mates round for a 4th place match.

I've never went to the bar for a 4th place match.

I've never had a celebratory party for a 4th place match.

FA Cup win every day of the week. You don't win medals for 4th place. 4th place will not go on the clubs honours list. I tell my kid about St John winning the FA Cup for Liverpool for the first time. I don't tell him about a 4-0 league win over Charlton.

How amusing, not a single mention of actually attending a fixture........

Talksport one hour debate on le merde:

Collymore kicks it off with: we need some context, Hicks & Gillette wasted a lot of money and nearly ruined the club....FSG saved the club and put it back on an even keel -

unusual distinction in spending money on overpriced wank and spending money on overpriced wank there....

@davek

The Kopite spin machine in full laundry mode there. Trying to wash away the mud.

It's important for FSG to be able to pass Liverpool on in a different state than they found it - ie, CL qualifiers plus playing in a newly revamped stadium - how else are they going to persuade a buyer to give them a massive profit on the £300m they paid for it in the first place. They need to demonstrate value added.

In Collymore's defence, he is more than aware that if anyone is actually going to carry out a 'death threat', it most certainly will be one of the RS kkkultists.

No mate. It was a handful of plotters who hated Martinez becoming manager who got the ball rolling before Christmas, at which point the vast majority laughed their bollocks off at them. Only when we were in free fall did that attitude take on any potency against Martinez. Understandably, but terribly misguided. You're talking a lot longer time for a manager to be condemned at Everton than Liverpool...although I would say it shocked me just how many blues displayed the Kopites horrible characteristic of entitlement this season.

I think the key difference is though that we tolerate, accept and in many ways champion debate and disagreement. How many Martinez out polls did we have?

I supported Martinez throughout (as did yourself) but never at any point did I think it would have been acceptable to use bureaucratic mechanisms to stifle opposition viewpoint. Nor do I think I am a better fan than those who wanted him out, or that I'd somehow proven my loyalty to a higher power. I think Martinez is the right man for the job but I don't carry on like he's some sort of saviour sent from god to give us what we deserve, a latter day Moses figure.

That in essence sums up the ley differences between the two teams and the outlook we both have. I support Martinez for footballing reasons, just as others oppose him for that. But nobody is trying to proclaim some higher truth of Shankleyism and debate and disagreement are welcomed.

Brendan reckons the players bottled it...."froze" and didn't rise to the occasion.

Good old gnashers. No wonder he had a rebellion on his hands two weeks ago.

If you look. He threw Suarez out. He has made Sturridge look a tit. Hung Stirling out to dry. Bumped aside Gerrard. Wrecked Lovrens confidence by not starting him. Thrown Balotelli to the wolves.

It amazes me that so many of their fans are buying the tripe that it's the players fault. We are talking of 1/2 a dozen of their first team he has undermined this season.

So is that 11 buses on the Anfield route tonight?

For 11 players to be thrown under
