Carroll and Beckham weren't outstanding, world class players and replacing them isn't even nearly as hard as replacing Suarez. And, BTW, Beckham was never United's best player.

Not by a long shot.

World class is a description we just drag out too easily, and I don't know how you define or measure it.

David Beckham, though, was special. He sometimes did things that took my breath away.

A much maligned man by many, and I don't understand why.

His sour puss mrs may have something to do with it Jeff.

This coming season was always going to be hard for them after that disastrous end of season which turned them from being smug, arrogant champions elect to at best the epitome of an anti-climax. It cut them to the quick as well as making Gerrard a self obsessed laughing stock. Being kicked in the guts by Suarez and, more importantly for them, his absence, will make next season a massive test for them all especially as for last season he "was" the team. I think Gerrard will be knackered by what happened then and down after his draining and more to the point poor World Cup and I cant see any of the others having the spirit to drag themselves up. Of course they can now flash the cash at whatever talent is available but without any guts they wont be a team.

30 league goal a season strikers do not grow on trees. This is a huge huge loss for them if he goes. To get someone of his level would cost them most of what they are selling him for and no guarantees that whoever takes his place will thrive in the Prem.

At the end of the day not many strikers have his goal record in any league, losing him could take them years to get over.

You mean like 24 or 21 million like syarez or torres? lol

I know what you mean but they have started to build a track record for signing goal scoring strikers. 3/4 big money ones have worked and the one that failed is because kenny and comolli are a joke.

If they have been preparing already for him leaving which i get the gut feeling they have, they know who they want to sign and for a lot less than the fee recieved. If not then yeah, it will cost them a lot more than it has previously.

Oh and brilliantly raising the wage cap invites anyone they approach to increase their wage demands and they can't turn them down. worst thing they could ever do was give him another pay rise, will cripple the club long term and has opened the floodgates when competing with other champions league clubs.

What was Liverpools bench like last year? Cause, as far as I'm concerned, they'll need to be spending every penny of any Suarez money to improve the squad enough to even consider competing on the fronts they'll be expecting to. If, as a few are saying, they get 1-2 players in with the Suarez money of a decent quality, it just wont be enough. Lets not forget aswell, that down to whatever witchcraft they used, Suarez never seemed to get injured, and could therefore cover when Sturridge inevitable was. Ask Sturridge to play 2-3 times a week? No way.

Difference with us? Youth. We have, maybe 4 youth players who are looking to be able to start some squad inclusion, and they'll be able to cover in a European competition that is lacking the quality, certainly during the early stages, of the UCL. This means that if we buy 2-3 improvements on the first team, alongside the return of Gibson, Oviedo, Kone, rentention of Barry and, though imo not essential, Lukaku we are in a great, great position.

Absolutely this, 100%.

Let's list the players in the Liverpool team that are of a good standard:

Suarez
Sturridge
Mignolet
Not convinced by Coutinho but I'll put him in here just for fun
Sterling is the definition of 'headless chicken' but he can go here too just for the hell of it
Let's put Lallana in too.

Now let's list the players who are of a great standard:

Suarez

They certainly don't have the quality to get anywhere near the title. Unless they buy six good players who seamlessly play together from the very start (yeah right) then they won't get top four either. They have terrible depth (Sturridge gets injured, dw guys we have Aspas!) too. Our depth wasn't much better last season but with all the players returning from injury and the six players Roberto said he wants to sign, it'll improve greatly.

Migonlet

Johnson Skrtel Sakho Flanaghan/Enrigue

Gerrard Henderson/Allen

Sterling Coutinho Lallana

Sturridge/Lambert

They will have an over-reliance on Gerrard - who is showing signs of being knackered after last season and the world cup, Henderson, Sterling, Sturridge, Lallana and Coutinho. So far they have sign Can, Lambert, Lallana, got that Spurs lad in for defence Kevin Steward. They rest of their squad Aspas, Alberto, Borini, Assaidi.

They are a bit thin on the ground. They will need to add at least 4 quality players to improve their squad. Without Suarez and the effects of the world cup on Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling, Johnson, Sturridge, Mignolet and Sakho, add the demands of Champions League and they will struggle. The form Suarez was in last season frightened the opposition without him as a foil for Sturridge or the main man they are not so much a threat.
