ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Do the vermin ever get drawn to play at home in the first leg of ties at the knockout stages?

No mate, their great pal Lennart Johanalfield had it written into UEFA's constitution that his favourites will always be drawn away first.

Had my annual beer & cigar with my cousin recently. He is a big red, but by no means a kopite. Decent sportsman himself in his day, and has pretty close connections with the (youth) footie scene in Liverpool, Cheshire, & N Wales. Asked him what he, and his "connections" thought of Liberpool, Rogers, & Allen.

1. Liberpool. Realise they, (the owners), were alarmed when some of the transfer/contract dealings came to light, and how much the squad had cost, relative to the value it now represented. It will not be allowed to happen again.

2. Rogers. Hmmm. Been given an easy ride after Roy, and appreciate his efforts to be as one with the fans/kop media. Nothing wrong with that. BUT, the jury is certainly out. Not because of results or performances, because most decent reds know they cannot turn it all around in 12 matches, but because of Rogers increasingly bizarre statements. ("2nd place", etc.). Over promoted is the feeling among my Cousins circle. ( And he does know people up there.)

3. Allen. Potential, certainly, but £15m? Not at all sure. Good player, no doubt, but as a midfield presence, not in the least convinced. le

Now this is all from a mature, relatively well connected, life time red, who will giggle when we slip up, but also gets a tad fed up with the latest generation of kopites. Quite surprised me TBH.

Apparently not - historically they boast a remarkable 64% 2nd leg at home record (so almost 3 Standard Deviations from the Mean - representing about a 0.5% chance of this happening) - however since they were allowed back into Europe in 1991 they boast (including the 2nd possible tie if they beat Zenit) a QUITE REMARKABLE BIAS towards a home 2nd leg of 49-17 - at 74% this is off the scale and then off it again when it comes to being drawn at home (if you prefer toss a coin 66 times and see how likely 49 will be heads or tails).

ZENIT St Petersburg will pose Liverpool FC a massive bigotry test, admits manager Brendan Rogers.Special US consultant ‘Cleetus’ is working with the teamThe two teams were drawn in the Lidl Champions League, and Liverpool face an uphill battle to prove themselves the more racist and homophobic team.Rogers said: “I’ve got the lads watching old Bernard Manning tapes to work on their pin-eyed hatred and we’re travelling to a rural pub in Yorkshire tomorrow with a gay dance troupe from Namibia to study how the locals react.“People have been bigging up this club’s intolerance and Zenit are a massive challenge as they’re so suspicious of outsiders they blew up their own airport to stop any strangers coming to town.“We’re having to get a coach there. You cannot buy that level of commitment to being a small-minded moron. Unless you’re Chelsea, obviously.â€￾Zenit fans recently wrote to their board insisting they never sign black or gay players. Previous requests for things they don’t want at their ground have included ‘anyone who eats salad’ and ‘anyone who has been to an art gallery’.Liverpool are hoping the racism of Suarez combined with the homophobia of Suso will be enough to see off Zenit but admit this might falter in the face of 65,000 drunk Russians armed with road flares.Rogers said:â€￾If all else fails we can get the lads to call everyone in the stands ‘Boris’ and offer them a bottle of vodka. Expensive and time-consuming but a really comprehensive stab at being a xenophobic arse.â€￾

Their Lucas thread is filled with gems.

Can anyone name me player Busquets hand his pocket all game? Without cheating getting player sent off? Then we can talk if he is as good as Lucas he not done half work load Lucas has to do!

Another guy links his own blog

Read Lucas' story here. From Sinner to Saviour on Anfield Report. A great article looking at Lucas very neatly. http://www.anfieldreport.com/lucas-sinner-to-saviour.html

"Great article" lol. Got to admire the chutzpah I suppose, but it's undermined by the fact the article is a clunky mess with delusions of grandeur.

ok, i'm putting my hand up here. i've never seen lucas have a good game. every time i saw him in the past he looked like the worst footballer ever. how long did he actually play well?

Early round European games are seeded, with the higher seeds always playing at home in the return leg, no conspiracy. In fact, I'm surprised it's as low as 64%, considering they'd be higher seeds in most European games they play.

Stopped reading when I got to.
"Lucas was starting to lay the foundations for a career that would take him to the angelic heights of the game."

Lucas' rep comes from his lengthy injury layoffs coinciding with the ****e being rubbish, which results in the belief that they are rubbish because he is missing. This then goes on to lead to the belief that because the ****e arent as good as Barcelona whilst Lucas is absent, then therefore Lucas must be better than Busquets.
