Looking at the remaining fixtures of Liverpool, City, United and Arsenal it looks to me like they could even just get 3 points off Boro final game at home and still scrape through to the last four.
Any other season they're bottling of these games would have been punished. Incredible.
In their own way 5 of the top 7 have bottled this season. I can see points being dropped at West Ham next weak who have turned a corner and look very solid with 3 at the back.
They may well scrape into 4th. It's hard not to see City getting over the line comfortably with 3rd. I don't think 4th is as good a result as they'd like to think. Looking at the teams they have to face, I'm not sure you'd fancy them over two legs against most of them. I also think any big signings will wait until they have that qualification. Best case scenario they go big in August. I suspect top targets like VVD will have moved on by then.
I don't think FSG will fancy them to get CL if they end up 4th so will hold back. Worst case scenario is they end up 5th, Arsenal pip them (very possible as Arsenal are experts at this) and United win the CL. They are left with all 5 other teams being able to attract top players and then picking up scraps. This alongside a long campaign in the Europa league and the lack of legs we have now seen post January probably from November onwards next year. Legs completely gone and injuries piled up like they are now by early March. Klopp's sheen wearing off.
There are problems emerging. Maybe FSG surprise us all and give Klopp mega funds irrespective of where he finishes, and Klopp changes his methods so his sides aren't fraught with injuries and a lac of legs by January. I don't see either happening and I see a crisis emerging that could be significantly deeper than the one Rodgers left behind.
Champions league may pro-long this spell in purgatory. However Europa League for them, make no mistake will look like Rodgers final season.
