The Reds' first Anfield defeat for 12 months now leaves them seven points behind league leaders Chelsea, who play Hull at home on Sunday, and Gerrard thinks that the reverse will have "stunned" Jurgen Klopp and his players.
He told BT Sport: "It's going to be very difficult now and they have left themselves with a lot of work to do.
"It's been like that for a long time, even during my time, we got close on a couple of occasions and it was the damaging results that came to the lesser teams."

They've been playing rubbish for ages. Should be put of the league cup and played terribly both games v Plymouth. They also hung on against both Manchester sides hit then spun the media to make out they bettered them. TBH for 70 minutes they were dog turd against us. This result has been coming, the wheels are falling off. The premier league has adapted to Klopps football and he has no plan B when kick and rush doesn't work.
