If Liverpool manage a draw or loss by only a goal at City they move 27 points clear at the top of the alternative league table.
Speaking one's mind is a dangerous thing to do in Liverpool, it seems. Guest house owner Patrick Duggan is not a fan of the city's elected Labour mayor Joe Anderson. In recent months he has taken to driving around the city in a lorry he owns with an "A-board" on the back which carries the simple message "Mayor Joe Must Go" and protests against "council corruption".
Duggan runs he Epstein House Hotel, former home of the late Beatles manager in Anfield, and has long been an outspoken critic of the way Liverpool Football Club, in cahoots with the city council, has blighted the area by buying up properties and leaving them empty for years, bringing vandalism, crime and dereliction. At 1am on October 30 Duggan's truck was destroyed by fire in the hotel car park. Firefighters say an accelerant was used. Inspector Knacker is on the case.
Did they have an alternative Champions League table last year? By my reckoning, their triumphant 1-0 defeat at the Bernabeu meant that they actually won the competition. SIX TYMEZ YWAN JTF96
A man who wished to remain anonymous told the Liverpool Echo: “My 14-year-old son is at that match and there’s Stephen French who has said half a dozen people want to kill him.
“What if someone takes a shot at him?
“I think it’s disgusting he’s allowed to be there. Someone should tell Klopp.”
