Gerrard's neurotic book extracts serve as hilarious skit fodder and, better still , another magnifying glass on his shameless egotistical vanity. Additionally, he also reflects the never ending hypocrisy which is genetic to the RS, like this cameo....
"It seemed to me that Diouf had no real interest in football and that he cared nothing about Liverpool. For example, the way he spat a huge globule of gunky phlegm at a Celtic fan in a UEFA Cup match at Parkhead in March 2003 summed up his contemptuous and spiteful demeanour....."

I can't really stands Benitez. He is a grossly overated manager. He took Liverpool from a regular top 4 team and left them a mid table side. He was fortunate to fluke a penalty kick competition win.
He then took over the best team in Europe in Inter and left them at mid table in a weak Italian league. He then took over a Championship contending Chelsea team and finished 46th with them. An Awful manager.
However what I can say for him is that he had the measure of Gerrard. He knew he was a spiteful little ego-centrist drama Queen. He also knew he was a solid but limited footballer. That's why he shoved him out to the right wing, to essentially do a Steven Naismith/Dirk Kuyt role for the team. This is essentially the limit of the lads abilities. He then put better players in Central midfield, like Alonso and Mascherano.
For doing that captain Gerrard led a campaign to bully him out of the club with general snideness. He tried the same with Rodgers and it nearly worked. That's why Rodgers will have him nowhere near the club now. He's poison.
