The Americans are businessmen and ultimately they will make an unemotional business decision. If results do not improve and they fail to qualify from the CL group stage, they will think very dimly of a manager who has wasted the huge financial investment afforded to him.

The rawk cultists are making their sad no european cup jokes about us now.Who am i to begrudge them their bit of happiness but they should acknowledge that the behaviour of their fans that night in Brussells denied our greatest team since the 60's the chance to compete for european footballs top prize.

Cultists of my acquaintance know better than to try that one on me.

They know I will punch them straight in the metaphorical kisser with the fact that but for their murderous antics we would most likely have been European champions in 1986.

And who knows what we might have gone on to achieve after that.

Ancient history, but didnt it also affect Norwich City? Others as well, obviously, but seem to recall them or another "unfashionable" club copped it as well.

From memory it affected us, Man. United as F.A. Cup winners, Norwich as League Cup winners and Spurs as third placed team entering UEFA Cup.

was thinking today...be funny if another of their key players got injured, but then i couldnt think of anyone who is a key player lol if anything it might actually force rogers to play a better team!

This is my fear. That something happens that forces the Charlatan down a path he doesn't want to go but is actually the right way to go. A bit like when circumstances forced England to play Peter Reid.......

Mario Balotelli has riled team-mates and Steven Gerrard hasn't been happy since Real Madrid snub... can Brendan Rodgers stop the rot at Liverpool?
  • Mario Balotelli riles Liverpool team by going to boxing before loss
  • Steven Gerrard upset at being on the bench against Real Madrid
  • Rickie Lambert says players' attitude not good enough
  • Raheem Sterling looks in desperate need of a rest

The defeat at Palace has caused Fenway Sports Group to take an even greater interest in the running of the team after Rodgers admitted he is fighting to save his job.
The club’s owners are known to keep tabs on every newspaper, television programme and blog as they gauge supporter opinion in an environment they openly admit to knowing very little about.
John W Henry, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner and the influential director Michael Gordon are a ruthless bunch and are easily swayed by supporter feeling.Roy Hodgson, Damien Comolli and Kenny Dalglish, recently appointed as a club ambassador, still bear the scars of their brutal approach to the business of running a football team.Stateside, observers are looking at the £200million investment in the team and question the failure to re-establish Liverpool among the elite of English and European football.
They are aware of the tension brewing between the club’s director of technical performance Michael Edwards and Rodgers over Liverpool’s transfer policy. After making it to the group phase of the Champions League, Fenway did not spend £200m to hear that their famous team is in transition.

Someone should tell them that GOT is an RS fansite and get them to monitor this thread hahahaha

The mind might be playing tricks, but Villa were title contenders around then I am sure. Must have finished in a UEFA slot at some point.

It wasn't them though mate

It was Chelsea

Or Millwall

Or The National Front

Or Lex Luthor and the Legion of Doom

Or the 1984 Denver Bronco's

Or Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody

Or Krang and The Technodrome

Or Godzilla and Mothra mid-fight

Or The Kool-Aid man (Oh Yeah!)

Or Mecha Hitler

Or a Level 22 Onyx that's just learned "Tackle"

(Pick whichever one they're saying this week)

Even a level 22 Onyx had a great defence. Your point is therefore no longer valid ;)

Quite the opposite. The 'Steau Bucharest' banner celebrates what they did.

No, Villa weren't involved in the title race.

Though to be fair, I am only talking about the immediate ban in 1985......I think Luton won the League Cup during the ban period and Villa might have gad a high league placing in the late 80s though I don't recall it.

It was what they called the "big five" in those days....EFC, RS, Mancs, Arsenal and Spurs who fought out the title in '85, the year the ban really screwed us.

Up until about Christmas those five switched places then Spurs and ourselves broke away.

It was nip and tuck......and they went to Anfield in the February, I think.....a ground they famously hadn't won on since the year the Titanic sank, as the media were fond of saying every time Spurs fetched up at The Pit in those days.

Of course, they won that day to break the hoodoo :(

Undaunted, we forced a slender lead over them and we went to the Lane in March and Andy Gray and Trevor Steven fired us into a 2-0 lead before they pulled a goal back.

But the points were secured by Neville making possibly the greatest save of his career from a header from, I believe though I am ready to be corrected, Mark Falco.

We kicked on after that and won the league in a canter.....Spurs hearts were broken and the RS came from a mile behind to pip them for second place.

Oh, happy days......when will we see their likes again ;)
