This could well be Brent's "Anfield" moment.

When Moyes took it upon himself to decide the derby was a meaningless fixture and sent out a less than full strength team in the midweek of the Sunderland cup tie most fans, whilst shocked at the decision and stunned by both the performance and the result, held fire until we saw what panned out on the Saturday.

To see if the humiliation of the Tuesday could be expunged by a powerful display and victory in the Cup tie.

That game turned out to be a scrappy draw and from that moment onwards Moyes had lost a critical mass of fans.

That night at Anfield is now infamous in Everton folklore.

The cultists are putting a gloss on last nights surrender in Madrid in the hope that it all goes well at the weekend.

If Jose schools the bugger again, RAWK will be one bitter bearpit for Brent come Saturday evening.

God I hope not, he hasn't done enough damage yet.

Youre right.....and his next dilemma should be what side to put out. Resting players as he did last night only improves their stamina not their actual ability to play as a cohesive unit or with any greater success. He'll be hoist by his own petard come Saturday night when they've been done as a kipper for the usual reasons, regardless of how he chops and changes.... yet again.

BTW, could you imagine those whingers if they had to play on a Saturday at 12.45 after playing away in Europe on Wednesday night?

Jose is going love the game on Saturday.........what do we reckon, Bus or all out attack.......

A mixture of both, probably. For all their lamentable form at present, if teams do what Spurs did earlier in the season against them then the chances are they will get what Spurs got too.

I would go further back than that and highlight the complete no-show in the away leg to Fiorentina. That ultimately cost us the whole competition, as I believe we were the best team in it. Moyes went over there and just crossed his fingers we wouldn't concede.

I was gutted they didn't let a bag full in last night but I would much sooner they lost 8 games 1-0 than one game 8-0. They have already managed this in the last 2 fixtures so here's hoping for another 6 on the spin :)

That was moyes tactic in away legs full stop, think lisbon as well, he couldnt quite grasp how important it was to score in an away leg

Exactly. But that 07/08 team should have won that tournament. We were head and shoulders the best team that season.
the teams he put together should have had some silverware no question, he deserves credit for putting them together, but it equally showed his failings when we could challenge, losing mikel when he was at his absolute peak to injury didn't help, but still

anyway, brendan is a bell

Not just the tabloids that disapproved of the team Rodgers put out.

But if he is going to the Bernabéu and surrendering all hope of winning the match before his team have even stepped on to the pitch, he needs to remember that he is meant to be a football manager with vision rather than a bean-counting, middle manager with a five-year plan. He is in charge of Liverpool, a club who have won the European Cup five times and he is competing against the continent's best team in the world's premier club competition. He needs to forget about Chelsea on Saturday, forget about qualifying for next season's Champions League and pick a team that can perform in the biggest match Liverpool will face this side of Christmas.

. The concept of damage limitation should not be in their psyche. Liverpool are the club of Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Gerrard, a club synonymous with being winners in Europe. They are a club who spent five years trying to get back into the Champions League, celebrating when Rodgers steered them into the promised land, craving fixtures like Real Madrid in the Bernabeu. So why not have a go?

@TonyEvansTimes: Buy into the bull if you want, but this was a huge mistake tonight. @TonyEvansTimes: Wow. Loads on here seem to think that was some sort of success. Even Hodgson didn't lower expectations that much. @TonyEvansTimes: Instead of 'resting' his first choices, Rodgers should have put together a team to neutralise them, get something if they had off day

Will all be forgotten if they have a good performance against Chelsea and qualify for the next round of the CL. But if not Brendan is going to face a lot of unpleasant press. More importantly, doubt any of the players - either those dropped/benched or the second string thrown out with little support - will be particularly happy with his decision.
