ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

The other game in the group is the real bit of interest. Liverpool will, of course, be still stuck on 3 points after tomorrow night's game. The other game in that group is a tough one to call in terms of preferred result to see Liverpool dumped out.

Ludogrets and Basel drawing would be a bad result, obviously, and leave the door wide open for Liverpool to qualify. If Ludogrets win and get to 6 points, Liverpool would have to go and beat Ludogrets away to have any chance of going through, A draw would leave Liverpool with 3 points and much worse GD than Ludogrets (by about -5...although that could change with Ludogrets having to go to Madrid). On the other hand, if Basel beat Ludogrets they'd be in a strong position, but with a difficult home game to Madrid (although Madrid will be well qualified and maybe less motivated) and a trip to Anfield.

Let's hope the other two in the group dont end up carving each other up!

Actually, I'd prefer to see the Turds scrape through second in the group, then face a group winner and then get dumped out. Finish third and they'll drop to the Europa and you just know what THAT will lead to.

Real used the second half against the RS as a training exercise, which was very humiliating for Rodgers. They took their foot off the gas, maybe because they were playing Barca at the week-end but they still could have won 5-0. I have never seen a RS team play like that lot did the other week, they had no passion or enthusiasm, and lacked any skill and looked well out of their depth. Tomorrow Real don't have any distractions. They can tear LFC apart at will and start the Ole's early if they wanted. A scoreline of 6-0 wouldn't surprise me really. Then Chelsea on Saturday early kick off and given Mourinho's dislike of the RS he will have them well pumped up. Costa will have a field day against their defence and a 4-0 or 4-1 humiliation will have the Kopites wailing for his head. They will be shouting, 'Rodgers fora'.

I'd rather they were knocked out. They have no chance of winning it, but if they get Sturridge back and in form they could get past a couple of KO rounds. That'd give them a lot of momentum as a club.

If they dropped into the EL and we faced them in an earlier round I'd be confident. Our record in cups against them before SFs/Finals is pretty good.

Haha, remember when he was the next shankly six or seven months ago?

I can't feel sorry, they do it to themselves. Sort of like England fans, they are so desperate for success they big anyone and everyone they can up and heap insane amounts of pressure on them until they crack. They did it to the entire team in the spring lol

Had a suspicion he'd bought very badly and far too many. Think it'll get better when Sturridge comes back but we should be getting above them this year.

I saw/read an interview with somebody from the RS the other day. they were saying about how they still have confidence that Balotelli will do well, about how he is finally getting to grips with how Liverpool play, and is just starting to realise where he needs to change his game in order to fit in properly.

this, to me was almost an admittance that Rodgers doesn't seem to have a clue what he is doing. There is two trains of thought on purchase of new players, 1 is that you buy a player whose qualities, whilst being similar, are an upgrade on what you currently have. 2 the player you are buying offers you something different that can change the direction of the club. what Rodgers seems to have done here is buy a player who differs to anything he has, then try make him play the same way as previous players at the club.

I think that this becomes more prevelant when you look at his 'sparing' use of the Kirby chicken plucker. I dont think that he's not using Lambert cause Lambert isn't good enough, I'm just not sure that Rodgers knows how to use him, and Lambert isn't the type of player to be playing little touches here and there, he's a lump, who throws his weight around and will cause problems in the box.

All of this by the way, is made on the assumption that Rodgers has any sort of say on the sale and purchase of players, and that he isn't just a mouthpiece for Ian Ayre. He opened his mouth once on Balotelli, and was forced to eat a HUGE slice of humble pie.

Proving that the Adrian Chiles lunacy has invaded all of ITV and that organisation is now as equally deluded as the blerts across the park !!

Its ridiculous the way theyre plugging and advertising the match tomorrow with such drama and frequency. But Im getting a kick out of their naïve OTT approach as it will only serve to amplify their demise, and on national television. An early Bonfire of their Vanity.

I wonder how many they are taking with them ?

This is my favourite bit...
Steven Gerrard is the closest you'll come to finding the Queen of chess in football. He can play anywhere, move anywhere, equally powerful over long and short distances and when the going gets tough, the one piece you want on the board to take on any situation. But the flipside is that many a game has been won where the queen is kept alive by sacrificing smaller pieces and the king is checkmated on the other side of the board

"Brendan Rodgers may be prepared to gamble on Daniel Sturridge’s fitness for Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid with the England striker travelling with the rest of the squad on Monday".

“For the team to have confidence, it’s important that you look like you can score a goal,” the manager told the club’s website. “We didn’t look as if we could threaten so much. I’m a creative and attacking coach, and we have seen over my time here how we build teams to score goals in order to win games. But at the moment it’s not quite happening for us. We just need to analyse the game and work harder to make it work.”

A major gamble to play Sturridge if he is not fully fit. But Rodgers is up the creek and needs to find a paddle.
