Hadn't really noticed it before this week, but Gerrard really is finished mentally... It genuinely seems for the first time that he is sick of carrying them.

I think it's less that he's sick of carrying them but that he's just past it and not capable of it anymore. He's always been a high energy player, positional discipline has never been his thing so now that his legs have gone and he can't run all over the pitch like a madman he's pretty useless.

Not forgetting the long, fat contract he'd signed (obviously the top earner there) so £10M a year plus to paddle furiously about in midfield like a slight upgrade of Phil Neville (2013).
