Many God-fearing folk were once racist, too, scarcely a few decades back, but they were shown to be fools, despite what they claimed their book and their faith told them. Now their views are laughably old-fashioned.

If you are ever going to bring Jesus into any sort of debate, please make sure that absolutely know everything about him, why he came to this earth, and why he chose to die on a cross before making erroneous assumptions about what you believe to be true about him, and then making a comment based on those erroneous assumptions supposing that it will somehow bolster your original point. It's quite apparent to me that given what you know of him is next to nothing.

Even if we do assume for the sake of this argument that he was the figure described in the bible, a sensible person can interpret his politics as being liberal, tolerant and thus rather left-wing.


Bill, if you have a different interpretation of what the man stood for, then that's fine too. But it doesn't make a convincing argument in the debate about if transexuals and homosexuals are "morally wrong".


The bible shouldn't be quoted as truth, either, as it's a collection of third-party quotes, sketches of events that are 2000 years old now. If one passage says something like "you shall not be with a man", and a few hundred pages later we get "respect your fellow man", we can interpret all kinds of meanings, some which will contradict each other.


As a society, we have refined our morals over time. Experience has taught us better than any old book. Homosexuals and transexuals aren't damaging society in the way legalised guns or drug prohibition are. Bit of perspective needed here, I feel.
