Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, 33, will be out for six weeks with a hamstring problem sustained in the 4-1 win over West Ham.
Jordan Henderson is also going to miss several weeks with an ankle problem, leaving Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers with Lucas and Joe Allen as his only fit central midfielders.
