Foot Long Hot Dog
Player Valuation: A packet of pork scratchings
Mignolet is a better keeper than Reina, so it's no surprise to me to see him pushed out. Reina was hugely overrated.
Rodgers is hedging his bets by sending Reina out on loan instead of selling, just in case Mignolet flops, but there's little to no danger of that happening.
You're giving him waaaayyyy, too much credit there.
Reina's agent made the ****e aware of his desire to join Barca at the start of the summer. Rodgers then lined up Mignolet as his replacement. But he completed the deal too soon & Valdes decided to see out his final year at Barca, leaving the ****e with a keeper on £5.5m per annum on their bench, a fact that the Yanks weren't going to sanction, so he had to get him off the wage bill. Reina still sees Barca as his long term goal, so made it clear that he'd not go anywhere on a permanent deal.
All Rodgers has succeeded in doing, is using £9m of his transfer pot this summer on a position that wasn't a priority. So whilst I agree that Mignolet will probably prove to be a good long term signing, they've totally ****ed this up in terms of the overall picture in this specific window.
