Also bear in mind he's over a year older than Enrique. Baines has got 1 more assist than Enrique this season from 11 more appearances, so assists per appearance are the same. I actually think Enrique is stronger and better defensively. All Baines would give us is a better set piece than Enrique but that isn't worth paying a ransom for.

the comments on there are tragic. someone made up a story about everton fans wanting wigan to win the cup final because it would piss the RS off? how does that even come close to making sense? Very average defender. He gets praise for "getting stuck in" and "putting his body on the line", but he is always out of position, technically inept, slow and not aerially dominant. Basically just a poor version of John Terry.

Enrique is better than Baines who is only good at attacking, Johnson is far better than Coleman, Jagielka is average at best - unlike Agger who is one of the best in the world and Carragher is far better than the donkey Distin, Reina is easily better than Howard and Lucas is the greatest DM the world has ever known and Gibson is a United reject.... yet we've conceded 6 fewer goals than them.

It's scary how accurate that kopite boom bust cycle is, the 'we're gonna win it next year' stage is well and truly under way.
