The difference is that Lance only had a certain amount of financial power behind him as well. He was one man with no brand or institution dependent on him.
As the reaction to the scab six super league showed us, the entire operation is dependent on certain teams being successful. If anyone formally accused them of this there’d not only be defamation cases from LFC as a brand, the PL would probably be suing the whistleblower for brand damage also, so would sponsors etc. You’d have cowardly other teams begging the powers that be to keep Liverpool where they are, not that they’d need any persuasion because the success of the PL and all the broadcasters is wrapped up in them anyway.
They’re too big to be punished now, would never happen. We saw Uefa try it against City, City had more money and better lawyers, what newspaper or individual whistleblower would dare take on Liverpool backed up by its media cartel and the PL and FA?
Most people know what they’re up to but I doubt it will ever be allowed to come out. Serie A lost its preeminence in Europe with the calciopoli scandal, the PL will be absolutely paranoid about anything similar happening. Everyone connected with the gravy train is absolutely leveraged up to the max (including us), not one party can afford to take a financial bath to uphold integrity and punish cheating. Every single pig is in the cesspit of their own making now.
