ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Sorry mate, only just seen this post.

Yeah, defo. But he was operating in a different culture in cycling where journalists had a tradition of upsetting the aple cart.

The PL is an incestuous affair where journalists who cover it know they'll be on a hiding to nothing trying to ask serious questions about training and medical regimes. Football in this country gets the hacks it deserves. They're all passive or actively promoting football clubs.
its more insidious than that, once the clubs realise that a journo is trying for an angle on that story they will be frozen out of all other stories; their bread and butter sports stories the journo can run will dry up and they will need a very understanding editor in order to carry on.

The difference is that Lance only had a certain amount of financial power behind him as well. He was one man with no brand or institution dependent on him.

As the reaction to the scab six super league showed us, the entire operation is dependent on certain teams being successful. If anyone formally accused them of this there’d not only be defamation cases from LFC as a brand, the PL would probably be suing the whistleblower for brand damage also, so would sponsors etc. You’d have cowardly other teams begging the powers that be to keep Liverpool where they are, not that they’d need any persuasion because the success of the PL and all the broadcasters is wrapped up in them anyway.

They’re too big to be punished now, would never happen. We saw Uefa try it against City, City had more money and better lawyers, what newspaper or individual whistleblower would dare take on Liverpool backed up by its media cartel and the PL and FA?

Most people know what they’re up to but I doubt it will ever be allowed to come out. Serie A lost its preeminence in Europe with the calciopoli scandal, the PL will be absolutely paranoid about anything similar happening. Everyone connected with the gravy train is absolutely leveraged up to the max (including us), not one party can afford to take a financial bath to uphold integrity and punish cheating. Every single pig is in the cesspit of their own making now.

Spot on. They would be finished in football journalism and probably be hounded along with their family by their psychotic fans.

Main story on BBC football today. Liverpool arrive in Thailand.
Not the Women's Euros or transfers.
Beggars belief.
Hang on! Read the headline!

Hundreds!!! If that's not worth being the main headline, I don't know what is! Hundreds!!! And when else are these masses going to get sight of the Premiership trophy or the CL trophy? Eh? Oh, wait a minute.....

It's getting more ludicrous and embarrassing by the day....

Again, spot on. The point about the other clubs backing them is very true. They are dependent on collective bargaining on tv deals and are turkey's that wont vote for Christmas any time soon.

The sky would fall in on any paper or reporter looking into this. That's why it's all ghettoised in the blogosphere. If these arsehole 'investigative reporters' like David Conn had ANY shred of credibility they'd be looking at this. But they aren't credible at all. Just hacks who prop up soft targets like players being harrassed for racism or their sexuality, or attack clubs over-spending (as we know)...all easy things to write about.

The questioning of Liverpool is coming from social media not the MSM...but it's so brazen what they are doing that we now see the club and their unoffical supporters websites having to tangentially address the issue by contextualising it away as part of footballer health testing - just like that This Is Anfield article I linked to the other day: it's all about asthma prevention and the plucky reds players are helping medicine to diagnose early signs of it etc etc.

As I said: it's hiding in plain sight now. They knew it was getting to be a story and they want to get ahead of it by stunts like that.

The RS and EPL will go full on Robert Maxwell in the way they'll defend themselves, sadly I doubt we would have the same ending.

I mean there’s no way we could be doping because we’re absolutely tragic. If we were though, it would be out by now, the kopite media would be on it like a rash and we’d be the ideal sacrificial lamb for the PL. They’d not think twice about throwing the book at us and most of the other 19 teams would gladly see us out.

It’s different for Liverpool though, they are the establishment team with most of the league and its supporting institutions set up for them. The tv pundits are selected for their fan base, the kick off times are selected so there’s more televised Anfield night games, most advertisement you’ll see for the PL or for sky or BT have them plastered all over it. They would never be touched.

I reckon most if not all EPL teams are doing it to some degree but most will have an eye of player safety margins, we all suspect that the RS have little regard for such inconveniences

Remember the imbroglio over in Spain about doping? How they just brass necked it out and pulled it back a bit - that's what'll happen with the rs and their doping even if it comes to light.

The rats won't lose a blink of sleep over it.

That's what Real Madrid used to get in Francos day.

Absolute 100% ppositive coverage by the state media.

They've always had the media covering for them but it really feels like it's gone up a few notches recently. It's like every single one of them have thrown their lot in with them. If they had any shame at all, they'd be embarrassed.

Nobody's holding their breath though. They can't with all that asthma, I suppose.

Since Herr Doktor Klopp arrived they've been in full swoon.

The Champions League thing seems to have blown over.

All the blaming of everyone but themselves successfully masked the fact that they were poor in another final, didn't score, Carlo gave a tactical masterclass and what was the other thing? Oh fake tickets in the thousands along with another load just trying to bunk in.

Naughty officials and police for not just letting them.
