ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

The refereeing was once again disgraceful but the bias has become so ingrained that most people just shrug their shoulders about it.

The title race would have been over months ago with any sort of event refereeing. They don’t get 4 points out of us and Spurs if rules of football are followed. If they’d have got a winner in those five minutes of added time it would have been a direct result of refereeing bias.

Fouling players on the break deliberately is a yellow card (unless you’re an Everton player to receive the only straight red in the history of football for that transgression). Intentional forearm smashes to the face are red cards. Stamps with the studs up can be red but at least a yellow. These are just the basic rules of the game yet for that lot they’re out the window.

Mane and Fabinho could have received a red card each in each of their last three games! Yet not only are they not given, but barely any foil is ever blown up against them so they can just keep the pressure up on the opposition with both sides knowing the ref won’t blow for anything. Then the five minutes of injury time, do we just keep playing until they get a winner?

It absolutely stinks and for once it was good that Liverpool were too poor to take advantage of it but it’s becoming it increasingly clear this season that it’s one rule for them and one rule for the other 19 teams.

Swap Allan and Richarlison for Fabinho and Mane and see what would have happened these past few games. Well they’d have both beens evening three match vans from the first one but the media would probably want Richarlison in jail for an eye gouge, a two footed lunge at a goal keeper, and an elbow smash to the face. Allan would probably be banned for the season for multiple yellow card tackles.
Referee actually played six minutes of injury time.

It used to be very rare to get anything over three minutes. That used to annoy me as well but the standard default was always three minutes for years regardless of what had happened in the game. Now it’s almost 2 minutes or 5 minutes every game. 5 minutes if the result is not going the way the PL wants it ok, 2 mins if it is. Whenever we’re in front we seem to have to play out a lifetime of injury time for a game with no injuries and often only one goal. Whenever Liverpool aren’t winning there’s five minutes injury time even if there’s been no injuries or not many goals. When they are winning it’s just 2 or 3 minutes.

The whole thing is just rotten.

Correct. Didn't we play 8 minutes against Chelsea?

And don't forget the referee just 'allowing one more attack' before blowing the whistle / blowing up before they need to face another attack.

One thing I've noticed is that Liverpool fans always tend to value winning the CL over the league whereas City fans value the league over the CL, with some of them booing the CL anthem. Why is this the case? Is it more to do with the political leanings of these clubs? Liverpool probably have more leftist remainers as their supporters and City have more brexiteer fans, but I'm not very sure.

Yet on RAWK (and talking to some southern idiot fans of them I’ve met) they are resolutely convinced that they get nothing and that whoever is a remote threat to them gets absolutely every decision in their favour.
I’ve little doubt they’ll cite ‘southern FA bias’ before the Cup Final and if they don’t win it’s because the rest of humanity is corrupt, same principle applies for the CL final. They simply deserve to have it all and we all wish we were like them. Apparently….

Don't forget, according to them, Heysel was Chelsea's fault.

Imagine Diego Costa gouging an eye, two footed lunge at a keeper after the ball had gone, then a forearm smash into someone’s face all in the space of three games.

Neither can I because he probably would have been banned for ten games from the first incident.

Yet for Mane there’s not a single mention of it anywhere, all the media are more bothered about crying in a City loss at the hands of an ex RS player, explaining why Ronaldo actually is rubbish, and trying to prove that Anthony Gordon is a diver and Pickford is actually terrible.

For those old enough who had less humility out of Klopp and Alex Ferguson?

I can't say I ever really disliked Ferguson. He dragged that entire club up to his standards almost single-handed. The amount of help and support he gave to younger managers goes unremarked often too. Fair enough he was a narky arl arse when things didn't go his way.
