This underlines what a mess Liverpool are in with a clutch of players nearing 30 or having reached that point and them nearing the end of their contracts.

The kids coming through are largeky pony and wont see them transition away from what they have easily (I was astounded there that they see Harvey Elliott as the "heir apparent" to Salah!).

Salah, Mane, Firmino, Fabinho, Van Dijk, Keita, Henderson (as well as some fringe players like Oxlaide Chamberlain and Shaquiri) all out of contract in 2 years so its stick or twist time.

Give them all big new contracts? At their age? That means no big money to refresh this or future seasons as its pretty much the last chance to get big ££

Let them run down to 1 year and hope they love it so much they will stay for free and because it means more? Taking a big risk that they will sign, their value decreases or the could get a bad injury.

Sell? Nobody will touch Firmino, he's been poor for 2 seasons straight. Wont get big fees for Shaquiri or Ox due to covid, big wages and injury history with Ox. Mane has been poor this season, not just his goal return either.

Fabinho/Salah are the ones who would command a massive fee but while Haaland and Mbappe may be on the market, I cant see anyone spending the money Liverpool would want. Maybe PSG if Mbappe goes but I hope he stays

He'd probably look quite handy as a reserve for Gundogan at City if and when he needs a rest. He'd play 20 games a season and be fine and allow Gundogan to rest up. He's by no means a bad player, and in the right system he'd be ok. But he's not suited to their system, and nor is he, or has he ever been a world class player. He's not even at the level of your Bernardo Silva's, Gundogans, David Silva etc type players.

There's a reason why he wasted most of his career outside the the top 2-3 leagues in Europe (Italian, English and Spanish) hiding away from the challenge.

Normally i'd agree but if they miss out on CL this year, thats a big revenue loss, as well as the covid hit - FSG are businessmen. Plus if they are tying the rest (Mane/Van Dijk/Fabinho) to new bumper contracts that costs ££. They would spend £50m max.

But I want them all to stay with no refresh.

Extending his stay until, say, 2025, then, could feasibly cost the club £52 million in wages alone, with further fees required for both the player and his representatives.

That last paragraph - thats just Salah. The same applies to Van Dijk, Fabinho, Firmino and Mane who are all in the same situation. Can they commit to that amount over the next 4 years? Esp if they dont make CL

My prediction is he goes next summer at 30 for a nominal fee to Madrid. 25m or whatever.

FSG get half a billion injected into it; it could be used to cover £52M in wages for just one player and tens of millions more per year for a handful of others.

But Libpoolfc have to watch on as "dee oil klubs wid loadsa monee, lad" go further than them in the CL.

The hacks who professed that Liverpool had world class players in each position should be hounded and laughed at.

The reality is that they had a very good front three, and all talk of the rest being 'world class' was a load of codswallop.

I mean what I love about this is the idea that the debate to keep Salah is from Liverpool's side. They are probably desperately trying to get him to sign a contract. Without his goals this season they are relegation fodder. Firmino, Mane and Jota are a bottom 6 level frontline. Thats the reality of it.

There are other nuggets in this. "His value will never be higher than this summer" well not really lads. There is this little thing that has gone on called a pandemic, that you may have noticed, and nobody have any money, especially not for 29 year olds. His value will have been on a sharp decline sicne 2017/18 time. But theya re right to say, if no contract is awarded he just becomes worth a nominal fee after this summer (someone might give them 20m and give him a massive sign on fee, which he may well have half an eye on).

As for the Harvey Elliot nonsense, I've heard this a lot. Blackburn are a lower half championship teams. He's scored about 4 goals in 35 games in the championship. He's found his level there, a low to mid ranking championship team. If he has another couple of seasons learning there, he may, may just become a PL player, but by no means an elite one. They've spunked about 10m on another young player who looks bit of a dud. The idea a fella who scores 4 goals in the championship is some heir apparent to Salah is absolutely laughable. I'm not even Salah's biggest fan (I rate Suarez, Torres, Rush, Owen and probably Fowler ahead of him) but christ he's miles ahead of Harvey Elliot.

It's interesting some outlets are starting this "should we give him a contract" chat though. This is normally stage one for an engineered sale when the lemmings start spouting this nonsense.

I think Elliot scores a lot of 'idea' goals though to be fair.
