ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Real Madrid seemed at ease throughout the entire game. They were never fazed.

They looked to play out from the back but intelligently, not because they've been told they must. They were always looking to play the ball forward.

They let the RS have possession, they knew the majority of the time it would go to one flank and the final ball would be poor. Stats might tell one story but Coutouis was never that busy.

There have been much better Real Madrid sides but I watched this group and hoped to myself that we'd be playing that way in a few years, showing no fear and positive in possession.
If this Real Madrid team (not vintage by any means) had played this lot in their so called pomp 2 seasons ago rather than Barcelona they'd have coasted through at Anfield.

It's the EC and it's Madrid. It's almost a done deal...especially against tat like this Liverpool team.

I’m still looking for evidence that all koppites are racist and b) that LFC are a racist club. Using Holgate as evidence is like your mentor Goebbels’ technique. Firmino supposedly made a racist remark which neither the referee or the tv picked up, he spoke in portugese, his native tongue which Holgate cannot speak. You trust Evra? Goebbels had a PhD from Heidelburg University, before he join the NSDAP. Like you he made blanket statements with no basis in reality and called them truth. Unsurprisingly you didn’t answer my question about where you are from, you cannot be from Liverpool; as a scouser born and bred, I cannot believe someone from Here shows your level of hatred towards people from the same City. And for your information the UAR is recognised by the UN as racist, the USA isn’t. Some people in the USA are, as are, no doubt, some Liverpool and Everton supporters. It was Evertonians who chrisened Liverpool Niggerpool in the 1980s and Goodison which according to a number of black footballers had the most racist crowd in the 90s. But that was in the past and I wouldn’t accuse today’s Evertonians of this. City’s owners were found guilty of cheating the fair play rules. Unlike you I deal in evidence, I suggest you examine the conditions and treatment of South Asian and African workers in the Gulf States, and the treatment of disidents there, especially in Abu Dhabi and Qatar. Then tell me Mansoor and his ilk aren’t racist. I don’ understand your final point. You said Anfield was a no go area, I pointed out that the area around both grounds is similar and neither are no go areas. I have Evertonian friends, and like me they think you are an ignorant bigot just like your mentor Goebbels, who also believed that when he said something it became truth. Awaiting a ban, if not further comment will follow.

Agents fees.

The 4th biggest wage bill in world football.

Transfer fees. What other side do you know has one year of CL football after a long absence and then goes out and almost doubles the world record fees for players in not one but two positions? Allison, Van Dijk, Keita, Fabinho all within a 12 month period, the biggest annual spend in football history ever. This is on the back of previous windows bringing in Mane Salah Matip Wijnaldum. Since then they’ve also spent 50 mill on Jota, close to 30 on Thiago. Meanwhile the likes of Can, Lallana, and this summer Wijnaldum have all walked out the door for nothing.

They are storing up a huge squad management issue. Players that can’t or won’t be shifted on huge contracts budgeted against continuous CL football. If they don’t get it this season the impact will be massive.

Who is better do you reckon, Thiago or Leon Osman?
Thiago is a very good player. He's in a team not set up for him so he's currently stinking the place out. He's not good enough to change to impress himself on their system. I feel sorry for him now. Osman was more effective a player for us than Thiago is for the rs.

When (I mean if) Klopp goes, if a manager comes in that actually tries to use him properly, then I am sure he will look better, but maybe not 400k a week good, but better than now. I might even stop feeling sorry for him and go back to mocking him then.

This underlines what a mess Liverpool are in with a clutch of players nearing 30 or having reached that point and them nearing the end of their contracts.

The kids coming through are largeky pony and wont see them transition away from what they have easily (I was astounded there that they see Harvey Elliott as the "heir apparent" to Salah!).

Yes.And there issue wth fees is they spread them across the contract. So Jota and Thiago need to be paid for again this summer.

I mean what I love about this is the idea that the debate to keep Salah is from Liverpool's side. They are probably desperately trying to get him to sign a contract. Without his goals this season they are relegation fodder. Firmino, Mane and Jota are a bottom 6 level frontline. Thats the reality of it.

There are other nuggets in this. "His value will never be higher than this summer" well not really lads. There is this little thing that has gone on called a pandemic, that you may have noticed, and nobody have any money, especially not for 29 year olds. His value will have been on a sharp decline sicne 2017/18 time. But theya re right to say, if no contract is awarded he just becomes worth a nominal fee after this summer (someone might give them 20m and give him a massive sign on fee, which he may well have half an eye on).

As for the Harvey Elliot nonsense, I've heard this a lot. Blackburn are a lower half championship teams. He's scored about 4 goals in 35 games in the championship. He's found his level there, a low to mid ranking championship team. If he has another couple of seasons learning there, he may, may just become a PL player, but by no means an elite one. They've spunked about 10m on another young player who looks bit of a dud. The idea a fella who scores 4 goals in the championship is some heir apparent to Salah is absolutely laughable. I'm not even Salah's biggest fan (I rate Suarez, Torres, Rush, Owen and probably Fowler ahead of him) but christ he's miles ahead of Harvey Elliot.

It's interesting some outlets are starting this "should we give him a contract" chat though. This is normally stage one for an engineered sale when the lemmings start spouting this nonsense.

He'd probably look quite handy as a reserve for Gundogan at City if and when he needs a rest. He'd play 20 games a season and be fine and allow Gundogan to rest up. He's by no means a bad player, and in the right system he'd be ok. But he's not suited to their system, and nor is he, or has he ever been a world class player. He's not even at the level of your Bernardo Silva's, Gundogans, David Silva etc type players.

There's a reason why he wasted most of his career outside the the top 2-3 leagues in Europe (Italian, English and Spanish) hiding away from the challenge.

Barca let him leave because they knew he was never getting in their team whilst Xavi Iniesta Rakatic Busquets were there. He went to Bayern and let’s be honest no one really heard of him again for about 8 years, didn’t impact the champions league for them at any point, didn’t do a thing at International level with Spain.

He then plays quite well in the back half of the CL run for Bayern last season and because he was moving to Liverpool he was suddenly billed as the world’s best midfielder. A ridiculous over statement. Having seen him in the prem he’s a tidy player who keeps things ticking over but he doesn’t have a killer pass like James or De Bruyne does, as evidenced by his no assists. For me he’s at the level of a Jorginho, best and tidy but can be run past easily and caught out and doesn’t really give you enough going the other way to make it a trade you’d want to do.

Yes all very true.

And critically Jorginho is not a bad player either, but it's just a lot harder in this league. I mean he's better suited than Thiago, as he is about 6 inches taller than him, but even he gets found out.

He will be fine in a league where there's not massive pressure, playing for a team who dominate the ball and he can just keep ticking it over. I warned against his signing when he went there, and most Kopites disagreed, and surprise surprise look who was proven right yet again.
