ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

They were comfortably knocked out yesterday. I'm surprised the narrative is that they created loads of chances. It's hard to think of a single good save Courtois had to make, he may have had 2 or 3 regulation ones, but thats it. The Xg showed the game to be a 1-1 sort of game (in fairness Liverpool slightly over 1 Madrid slightly under 1) but even that is generous to Liverpool, as most of their shots were happening with 5/6/7 Madrid players in the way (which Xg doesn't pick up).

The best chances in the game fell to Madrid, as did the moment going closest to scoring, The best chances were Vinicious 1 on 1 where he just has to lift it over Alisson, or the Benema free header from about 4 yards. They were also inches away from tap ins on at least 2 occasions (which againwas closer than anything Liverpool managed). The closest either team came was Madrid hitting the post.

Liverpool huffed and puffed as usual but never really got close to scoring, and really outside of the early Salah decent chance never really created anything clear cut at all. Madrid created higher quality chances while not really trying to attack for most of the game. Had Madrid needed to go through the gears, as they did in the 1st game, you always felt goals were there for them. They didn't need to, so they conserved energy and got the 0-0 they were after. Thts the difference with big clubs like Madrid going for multiple trophies, they think long term. It's an injury ravaged squad, so you always have half an eye ion the next fixtures. Don't waste energy on a team like Liverpool when you might need more in future games for the league title. If you can win but playing in 2nd gear, just do that instead.

As for Liverpool, the big omission is Thiago. Klopp went all in on him and has now not played him in the biggest games, preferring a clogger like Milner who's 36. They are probably paying Thiago-with bonuses 400k per week. The idea that he's further down the pecking order than Milner will be extremely worrying I'm sure. When he came on, the pressure dissipated as well. Sies just go back to playing through Liverpool easily. He doesn't suit the style of what they want at all, and frankly he got shown up by Modric last night who showed him how you control and run a game, even in your mid 30's. Thiago is not that level of player, he never has been, and he never will be. He had a great 6 months, but thats about it.

It's also amusing to see the much fabled Jota come on and fluff his lines again. He's a decent player but christ he's been overly built up again. He also made them worse last night. I like Jota, he's good, but he's not great never mind world class. Real Madrid's 4th choice right back basically stuck him in his pocket last night.

So overall an enjoyable watch. Another year, another 350m spent on wages (in the top 5 of Europe) and another season with absolutely nothing to show for it. I make that 6 years Klopp's been there, 23 potential trophies, and he's won 2, while having one of the biggest wage bills in Europe in the process. You'd think the more logical in their fanbase will start to ask some questions soon.

Thiago - could be wrong, but I think it is indicitive of Klopp prioritising the top 4 ahead of Madrid. He played both league games

Jota - was absolute gash yesterday

I mean I'm not sure what "welcoming" a bus really gets. That sort of stuff needs knocking on the head, especially away from the ground.

However the point you make is a good one. Where were the people chinning them for lashing stuff? I didn't see any, I just saw people cheering. I have less respect for those who stand around doing nothing as the knobheads who partake in that behaviour.

I think of bringing my youngfella to the match in a few years time; obviously not to that kind of toxic atmosphere, but it should be a good thing & should be welcoming the home team, not the away obviously

What I can't understand is why there is so much adulation in this city for a club that has always had an utter bunch of scumbags following them.Everywhere I walk in my area all I our see is the LFC badge either on door plaques people's caps, shop/ pub windows, cars etc. Why would you want to be associated with that club?
Because weak people like to have a little bit of reflected glory when these mutants spawn a trophy, it makes up for the rest of their inadequate pathetic lives.

If you offered anyone associated a league and CL when he took over, considering the state of what they where when he took over they would have bitten your hand off.
Which I guess just shows the level of ambition.
one. Only one domestic trophy in 6 years is a shocking return.
It's not even if they have got to any finals. They won an **** Asterisk****
title and then the wheels fell off. Not good enough. Not anywhere near it.

Yeah & sorry, I wasnt trying to be flippant - my point is there were police 4 ft away doing nothing. Go down to Queens sq Bus station and start lobbing stones; safe to say you would be arrested quicly - why was it tolerated last night
I'm guessing that the party line would have been that by doing so they would incite further violence. Effing hell that why police have support groups for exactly that. A few highly profiled arrests at the time of the offence would make them think twice about doing it again. They have become empowered by seeing they can get away with it time after time.

You're both right, and I've seen it with my own eyes with Evertonians, albeit on a much smaller scale than vandalising coaches, arson or murder.

We would have chinned the weapons who were lobbing bricks, and got it dealt with, so any gobshitery is quickly knocked out of anyone who starts doing stupid stuff.

Sadly, the "normal" kopites laugh and cheer the idiots on, and sometimes join in - that's their biggest issue, they don't deal with or address issues, the embrace and encourage them, so smashing a bus up, or shooting fireworks and setting fire to our cities civic buildings, or daubing childish graffiti onto Everton related statues or buildings is something to be proud of.

it's difficult to reply to this without inviting the predictable lazy pile-on, but context is everything. He took over a mid table (at best) team, got them into Europe hit two plus 95 point (i think seasons) as well as three european finals before restoring them to mid table neatly.

sure the ambition levels are different to city's; but again if you offered any player, the owners, klopp or "fans" the hypothetical deal of a CL and PL, they would have jumped for joy.

Precisely - this is bit i struggle to understand

Why are their ambitions different to City's? They are a 'bigger club'. They have a bigger world-wide fanbase. Their turnover / revenue is higher than City's and they can splash the cash with the best of them when they want as has been proven. Their ambition should be higher if anything.
However, my initial point remains - one domestic trophy (and no finals) in 6 years isn't or shouldn't be good enough
for Liverpool. I can see Klopp being on his way this time next season to be honest..

A team that spent world record fees on Goalkeepers and Defenders as well as spending the money they did on Keira, Jota etc. don’t have ambitions to match City’s? Nah I don’t buy it. Klopp has failed.

It's really sad. Their fanbase has changed, at the exact moment you'd expect them to show a bit of maturity. I'd be appalled if the whole world saw us vandalising European opponents buses and making that what we were known for around Europe. Basically the 21st century Millwall.

I can sort of understand Millwall revelling in that sort of nonsense. They're rubbish. While I'll have a laugh and joke about Liverpool they're a very good team with a proud tradition in Europe. I have no idea why some of them seem to want to try and emulate Milwall or Ingerland type behaviour of attacking foreigners wherever they go. Absolute knobheads I'm afraid.

It's not even about Liverpool either. I feel the same way about Ingerland. So when they go "oh well you wouldn't say it if it were your team". Well I would, I just gave up on ever being bothered about Englands results.

I agree - I think he can reasonably "sell-in" the forget the season, no fans, bad luck with injuries etc etc this season, but if they are not somewhat close to where they were the last two years at Xmas next year, which I feel is highly highly unlikely he will have real struggles
