If you are protecting your club from going to the wall fair enough, but for what would be roughly a maximum of about 900k is it worth it for a club the size of Liverpool?
I've read on some posts that they are going to make a donation to the NHS and that will make up for it. That sounds like robbing Peter to pay Paul. The money the government doesn't have to pay out they could have used to fund the NHS or trying to save companies that ordinary workers will hopefully go back to when this is over.
How much more is their kit deal bringing in next season compared to this alone...millions upon millions. I've also seen people say well Branson has done this or BA etc. but they aren't still paying the full salary of other staff that run into the hundreds of thousands per week. They should have been able to negotiate with players/coaches to reduce their wages enough to cover the 80%. After tax it would be like £250 a week off very well paid people to give to the most in need without going cap in hand to the government.
I hope Everton give this a very wide berth. It is shameful, the furlough scheme is to keep jobs that may be lost forever if the company has to close or lose jobs to survive. Luckily football will be back no matter what with the same amount of people as there was before, you can't say that about other industries.
