ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

That day haunts me to this day. Today - the 14th haunts me more. We were all teenagers drinking in a park in Fazakerley. With my cousins and mates, reds & blues, all had a few bevvies and left each other w “see you at Wembley lads”.

We went to villa park and hillsborough the next day with our dads and uncles.

Will never forget the scenes at that social club near villa park, then the journey home knowing they were all still missing, and going straight to meet their train at lime street, crying when none of them were on it.

My great uncles drove to Sheffield to find them. We stayed up all night. All the neighbours were there. We couldn’t celebrate. That call at 2am to the house phone to say they’d found my cousin alive but confused with a broken arm. And then the family of his best mate with us at the time. They said he’d died. Literally everyone howled and screamed in pain. Never forget that. Nothing was ever the same. My cousin was abused for having left his mate to die but protested that he was still alive when he got him on to the pitch before he lost consciousness himself.

My cousin got abuse for years and then the ultimate tragedy 25+ years later when the inquest showed his friend was still alive just as he’d said, he killed himself when he was finally exonerated.

There were more than 97 victims but most of all I despise how they have commercialised and weaponised that moment of our shared pain. And I will forever.

That’s a really moving post .

I experienced something very similar even town to saying “see you at Wembley “ to friends and family .

We went to Villa in a transit van with no radio . The first story we heard was they’d kicked off but then we discovered that was completely untrue and Rumours became a bit more accurate. As we reached the van the story was that a stand had collapsed, the stand were my then girlfriend and later wife was . Boarding the van there wasn’t one of who didn’t have a friend or family there and obviously mobile phones were years from being a thing . The journey to the first services was in complete silence . We’d just won a semi final and nobody spoke .

Once at the services there was a queue for the pay phone that felt like a mile long . Blues shuffling their feet in silence before trying to call home and find out if everyone they knew was ok . Although others got good news I got no updates and we headed back home .

I got to my mum and dads and as I got in they told me she’d called and was ok . I managed to ring her and honestly despite the awful day I was delighted . Hours later I discovered my cousin had been in the leppings lane stand and had suffered serious injury . My earlier happiness turn to pain and guilt about my earlier celebrations . Although suffering brain damage My cousin survived , it killed my auntie though as she never recovered from seeing her child like that .

it was just a horrendous day and I’ve said it before it was a tragedy for the city not just Liverpool football club.

The fact that nobody has ever been truly held to account for the criminal acts and lies is an absolute disgrace.

RIP all of the 97 , my thoughts are with their families and friends and my admiration will always be with thoughts who fought tirelessly for justice .

Good morning blues have you heard the quietness this morning ?
No sounds of stones being moved as people crawl out ?
The buses and trains were quiet no BO from RS who have slept and gone to work in their red shirts retelling tales of little Mo, Big Virg, Macca and what Carra said on the telly
Was it a penalty ? who fkn cares?
There will be no red flags in windows no parades this year.
Enjoy your day blues breathe it in this is a good day.

37 years of pain and anguish for our city, never seems real. Those that survived still have nightmares and PTSD, the families relive their heartaches every year on this fateful day, the strongest of which have never gave up the fight to see justice done.

The newspaper that spent 2 decades slandering our people, our brothers and sisters in the red corner, somehow is still allowed to be in print and the Journalist who instigated it is still working in the media to this day when he should have been banged to rights and excommunicated

The police working that tragic day, their commander in chief especially, should have seen a jail cell themselves, instead they all got to live to old age, there were kids in the victims list that never got to do that

We mock them for results off the pitch but every year since 1989, and forever more, there is but one date that is untouchable for mocking and that is April 15th. The 97 will always be loved and missed by everyone on the blue side and we will never let the Reds walk and grieve alone. RIP brothers and sisters

If we can beat these at the weekend the panic will set in. They’ve been be dry fortunate that 5th place has opened up, and that their nearest challengers for it are Chelsea who have lost three in a row and Brentford who have drawn four in a row. They’ve been poor in the league getting 4 points from 12 out of easy fixtures yet have somehow extended their lead in fifth place which is astonishing for that end of the league. We need to put them right back in the mix as if we do they’ll be openly turning on Slot and the players during matches and they could completely implode on the run in

I apologise for the timing of this post I had not read the content of the post above and did not mean any disrespect to the people who suffered at Hillsborough.
I was also at Villa Park that day and do recognise the sadness of the day

An unprecedented quadruple of flukes you say?

It happens.

The point being that in all those trophy wins they were never the dominant team in England or Europe....nowhere near it in fact.

I lived through a period of Liverpool dominance (before Everton knocked them off their perch) and these Liverpool teams come nowhere near to approximating with them.

They're just 4 mediocre outfits in the last 33 years who got more than their fair share of luck and corrupt decisions.
