ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Can't stand him one bit. He was a superb player like but not in Xavi or Zidanes class. They are both top shelf players arguably in the top 10 of all time (Zidane defo is) He maybe scrapes top 50. He was good to be fair, worst thing he did was hang around them lot. What's your favourite Phil Collins song?

I wouldn't put him in the top 50.

Good player, effective when he was younger - then hung onto Alonso's coat tails to garner a reputation of being world class. Then turned into a wayward Hollywood crossfield ball hit and hope merchant who lived off his prior reputation.

Top 50 Premier League, maybe top 100 worldwide on his best day.

whoa there tiger, don't go dissing the cult FIFA World Player of the year and Ballon D'or winner... oh hang on that's Zizou...
or the multi European Champions/World Cup winner... oh hang on, that's Alonso.

Ahh, you mean the winner of the BBC's favourite club's player of the century, voted for my mum's box room dwelling bedwetters. Stand up the champion of MoTD highlights packages.

Controversy Alert

People fail to notice just how Gerrard built his reputation - he got results because:

The good bits: He could whip in a great cross and the odd Hollywood pass to some excellent forwards like Torres and Suarez

a) he knew how to throw in a tasty challenge now and then
b) he knew how to influence refs (winning penalties etc etc)

but the bit they definitely overlook is how often he strutted around doing sod all while the rest of the midfield worked their socks off and then in the final twenty minutes he actually did some legwork when the opps were tiring.. then he was a very effective player. Luckily for him he played for a side that generally were always in the game. If he'd had to put in a shift in a lesser side he might not have had quite the career (and look how average he was for England)
