You've sort of answered your own question though. Allan is in the team largely for his off the ball work, so it's acceptable he doesn't contribute. As you say Thiago is a liability without the ball, and contributes very little with it. He's not an aerial threat. He doesn't over lots of ground. It's hard to see what he really does.

Well I think we established we have no real idea what he's in the team for. As a creative midfielder he should be in the team for goals and assists, as opposed to giving lots of fouls away.

He's very similar to Gomes. He's just there and no one is quite sure why or what he's doing.
