ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Must have forgot Thiago was 25 and is playing for free. Mad to let him go when it would cost a fortune to replace

Why not say he's off on a free as they weren't prepared to pay his demands, and they think they can improve their squad with someone else better for the money. That's just business. Why make such strange announcements about their honourable business principles? They furloughed people for damn's sake - they're just about the making of money.

Backtracking spin trying to make it the players fault not their own.

Just had another what's app from a kopite, this was obviously wrote by an Evertonian to see how many of the tits send it.

'Watch the media go wild tomorrow mate, Farhad Moshiri has called a meeting with Colin Chong and Bill Kenwright. Meant to be an emergency board meeting to discuss the future of the club. Looks like they are changing the whole structure to avoid any more bad press, from the top down all the board of directors are being dismissed. Marcel Brands, Jon Woods and Rob Elkstone are handing in their notice already. There has been murder in the club and the FA are apparently talking about relegating them to division 2 and giving them a mega fine if this corruption scandal turns out to be true. Could be forced to sell Goodison if they can't get the funds together. Talks about it being one of the biggest scandals in the history of football.'

lol lol lol :hayee:

That's it in a nutshell. I don't even see a reason why letting him go is that big of an issue. Just let him go, wish him well in his future endeavours and go about replacing him.

I suspect, that it's the replacing him part of the equation that they are trying to spin as out of their hands due to excessive demands (or market rate as it's known).

I hate that Rob Elkstone!!!!

I mean this Arnold thing is absolute madness. Most of their fans have slaughtered him for months. Then they go on about him like he's one of these top talents. He's a lad who had a great season or 2, but has now been found out. He's been at fault for multiple goals, gives tghe ball away record number of times and has created very little.

In terms of right backs, these lads are all miles ahead of him;
Trippier
Walker
AWB
Reece James

Younger right backs who will probably overtake him:
Lamptey
Aarons

In honesty, there is a very good case that both Holgate and Godfrey have played better as right backs this season than him as well. He's not even close to the England squad on current performance level this season.

The likes of Hughes will just pick a culture war though to try and feel hard done to.

Articles like this are very indicative for them though. They are about as sly, deceptive, untrustworthy and outwardly spivvy bunch of people as you will ever meet. So they are not going to frame things as "we've got no money". There is a spin going into it, that it's somehow within their hands.

When you boil down the multitude of context and spin though, what you have is a club who can't afford to keep one of their best players, who has played pretty much every game this season, and then trying to spin that story.

If they can't afford to keep Wijnaldum as he's nearly 30, it's going to be very interesting to see how these contract negotiations go for Salah, Mane, Firmino, Van Dijk, Fabinho all go.

Due to age pressures (all either approaching or older than 30 come the summer) and the pandemic all will have lost anywhere from 50-75% of peak value. Whatever value is left, will then start to massively decline the day they go into tghose final 2 years. Thats the real countdown point.

Whether he is better or worse than any of the above is not really the issue. None of the above would sell for anywhere near £90m.

No I wholly agree on that. In fairness they are using a transfermarkt valuation, but nobody is paying 90m for Arnold this summer, absolutely nobody. Being fair, they might have got around that last year, but people have now see without VVD covering for his mistakes, he can't actually defend very well.
