ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I predicted this before Christmas.

The reality is, Real Madrid and Barca don't have much money, and will want Salah "on the cheap" so probably for 50m ish (top end). It is going to get really really messy.

I remember when Van Nistlerooy when to Madrid, aged 29, who was very much the Salah of his day, and he went for £13m which was way below market value. They're not going to pay a bomb for Salah who's nearly 29.

As a slight aside look at Mane and Firmino. Mane has 3 goals in 20 games. Firmino has 1 goal in 13 in the league. Both look to have reached that cliff footballers can get too. Mane is 29 in a cuple of weeks and Firmino is nearly 31. Neither are coming back to roaring form, and while I expect the above numbers to improve, they won't be getting back to peak levels of 15-20 goals a season.

Across a season their current numbers are where you expect someone to get about 5 league goals a seaso to get. Even if they both double that in the current drop off, you're still only at 10 goals each, and requiring them not to get injured.

Anyway, long story short, I do wonder how long it is until Salah falls off the same cliff they have.

No top club is going to trade cash for a depreciating asset. Why would Madrid give Liverpool a huge fee allowing them to strengthen in return for a player who is now well past his best and will only get worse. Madrid will want to be buying Mbappe or Haaland or even a Richalrison rather than giving their rivals the funds to do it.

I’ll be amazed if they can find any buyers for any of the front three unless they run off the end of their contracts and go for cut price. The pandemic hit them at exactly the wrong time.

Their lineup today just screams “we’re not getting top 4 this season so let’s protect our players and throw everything we have at champions league as it’s the only way we’re gonna qualify for next season “
and puts them under quite a lot of pressure when they do play in the champs league, they haven't been too good under pressure recently so lets hope they crash and burn in both league and euro.

It's It's odd one today. They have made lots of changes. Either to prioritise the champs league. Or so that klopp can argue he is trying to protect his players (which would be for the first time in 3 years). But they risk losing a 6th home game on the bounce and their morale will be decimated.

I mean he has quite a big commercial profile, though nowhere near as big as James who they have just let go (and way off Ronaldo).

They do sometimes take older players (like Van Nistlerooy) but rarely pay big money for them. I sense the pandemic has probably crystalised for them that he might be decent on the cheap. As I said earlier this year, 2 years left on a deal, 29, you would just tell him to wait if you were Madrid as the value is only going q way. Him, Mane and Firmino must all be thinking if we see this out, we will get a big bosman to Juventus or wherever.

You're also right, given sides will be missing out on CL, a lot of players could be moving. Sancho, Haaland, potentially Mbappe (though I suspect he will sign a new deal with PSG) are all bigger prizes than Salah this summer, and who will be who sides will pay big for. I think Liverpool are trying to push Salah out, for the maximum fee, veinly hoping they will get close to 100m for him.

Just watching this, those 3 lads playing at the back will never end up PL footballers and will do well to be champioship players. They may end up winning this game, but Fulham could easily be 4 or 5 up and they cannot get near Ademola Lookman and Maja. They are all over the shop.
