Jeff Stelling has just said that in the next 6 games the RS have Spurs, West Ham, Brighton, Leicester, City and Everton. He the added - so 3 of the top 5 plus a Merseyside derby. They just refuse to acknowledge where we are. Of course they could gave said 5 of the top 7.

Suits me if they do. I doubt they'd get too much of a boost out of it if United rested up players.

This Liverpool team dont want to be playing a lot of games. They should be given every encouragement to do so.

And it's noticeable that this United/Liverpool fixture hasn't been given the usual BS build up. That's because everyone knows it's small potatoes to the main course. The winners of this game will be the real losers.

I want them out of everything and fast because these are well capable of going on a 10-15 winning run. They’ve probably only been beat about 8-10 over the past 3 seasons. Only a fool would write them off yet. The problem for me about today’s game is despise UTD their manager and all their players, with Liverpool it’s their fans I hate most.

"Course correction" FSG would call this if it were the Red Sox. Changing strategy between investment and scaling back according to external factors. The Red Sox have been cutting spending and selling players again for the last year or two, and I doubt the two organisations will follow massively distinct lines in that respect. Peaks and troughs rather or an all dominating dynasty does the same job for FSG as long as the peaks aren't too spaced out: keeps the money rolling in with commercial deals.

Like you've said, Klopp isn't a legacy building manager. FSG aren't legacy building owners either, the plan is in cyclesto get a great team for 2-3 years then probabaly spend 5 or 6 rebuilding again. The theory is, the highs of a couple of years are worth the lows that come with it.

In fairness, the manager and the owners have been in sync up to this point. The ones who have been out of sink are the fans, who seem to think they were on course for a new era of domination. It's laughable really.

Like you've said, Klopp isn't a legacy building manager. FSG aren't legacy building owners either, the plan is in cyclesto get a great team for 2-3 years then probabaly spend 5 or 6 rebuilding again. The theory is, the highs of a couple of years are worth the lows that come with it.

FSG knew they were getting a manager capable of huge highs and then lows. They're used to that. The only diffeence between here and North America is that Liverpool have psychotic supporters, and they'll know that a manager grumbling can ignite a rebellion.

Salah seems to be one to throw his toys out of the pram...anyone else you think?

With PSG i think you need to look at Pochettino...if hes told a budget would he approve the DOF splashing out on Alisson?

I cant see it myself...they'd probably go for Kean and from the RS id guess TAA / Robertson / Fabinho would be the three they'd look at as well as VVD.

Cant see any of the big clubs wanting older forward players at Liverpool, more likely imo to see a big fee for one of those 4 players.

Of the lads they have, Salah probably has the "star quality" that Firmino and Mane don't. He could be called a Galatico and would probably have the character to handle Real Madrid (whereas I'm not sure Mane/Firmino would be of interest). RM have reigned in spending a fair bit recently and will continue to moving forward. I could see them having a punt on Salah, if the price was reasonable, but he would only come in after they sign Mbappe who's clearly number 1 target.

I could easily see them saying to Salah just wait a year, knowing his price just declines as it goes on. Firmino is another one I think has Juventus written all over him, albeit at a knockdown price or really a free transfer. These clubs have become quite smart at taking older players from the PL for knockdown prices.

There's a wider point here though. Players valyes are declining sharply and thiose 28+ are really bearing the sharpest drop. I don't think anyone is bailing them out with those lads.

Before the VVD injury I felt City may have paid silly money (£100-120m) for him. With his injury and their defensive stability though, I just can't see it. Chelsea- again tends to buy younger players now. Arnold has lost form. It's a bit of a perfect storm.

You mentioned about a "fire sale" if they miss top 4. Would you expand on what you believe this might look like?

This is the curveball in their plan really. If in the process of the natural ebbs and flows they have (which really emulates the stock market) is what happens when a dip comes. In football fans are a bit dim and don't see the bigger picture. This is amplified multiple times over by them, who are amongst the most stupid football fans you'll ever meet. What it can lead to is that a dip ends up become a spiral that engulfs the club.

Trying to pur rivalry aside for a moment, but I always think when they are on song they do very well. When it's smooth they amplify momentum well with their often ludicrous world view. However its no coincidence when things start to go wrong, it collapses quickly. You think of Souness, when Benitez went from being title challengers and within 18 months they were bottom of the league etc. To a degree even Rodgers, who was lucky the season ended the game he was 5-0 down after half an hour at Stoke.

I'd also add, if you want a calming presence at the helm to manage that dip, it's not Klopp.

Yes I could see that. The alternative, as one red said to me is this is akin to Klopps final season at dortmund with seasons turned around. It just implodes from nowhere and they get like 25 points for the remainder.

That's unlikely but possible. I'd love to know more about what the "years to recover from" setback of missing top 4 might mean too.
