ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Suddenly, tonight has become a massive game for them.

I happen to think they'll win like, but anything other than that could deal a massive psychological blow given the form of both the Manc clubs and even Leicester.

Kopp on Van Dijk:

“I don’t know what is possible and I don’t think I am the right person to judge it,” he said. “He looks really good and I spoke to him this morning and he is in a good mood but I don’t know when he will be back."

That's a desperate manager placing pressure on his own club's medical team, and the player himself, to get back into the team regardless of probable setbacks over cutting corners on recovery time.

The stink of desperation is oozing out of this feller.

That isn't really the statement of someone who is confident he is back soon. I mean you usually say particular milestones- he's started ball work, he's started running, he's in light training, we hope he gain join training in 3 weeks etc etc.

There's nothing concrete here "looks really good". Ok what does that mean? Given how he clearly wants to push him back, it's interesting he can't offer a single substantive positive on this.

He’s looking for his short term legacy, his recent actions aren’t the ones of a manager there for the long term.

Buying Thiago for 25 mill was purely about just winning this season. He had loads of midfielders and didn’t need him particularly (unlike us with Allan and James when we were desperate for quality at the very start of Ancelotti’s term). He’s injury prone and on a massive wage. Good luck to whoever picks him up in a few seasons when Klopp is gone.

The front three haven’t been refreshed, and don’t even get a game off. He is just running them into the ground, and apart from Jota, he’s leaving his successor with nothing Origi, Minamino, Shaqiri, Oxlade Chamberlain. Very poor backup. I don’t even know if Jota is that good to be honest or just a scored a few winners and then got injured. He didn’t look head and shoulders above the rest at Wolves.

He’s sold their young defenders (metaphorically and physically). Hoever gone, Van der Berg on loan during a defensive crisis, and clearly zero confidence in Williams, Philips or Koumetio. Yet is rushing VVD back along with Matip time after time. Apart from Gomez what is any new manager going to be left with?

In Germany their equivalent of Richard Keys stated thatm he's going at the end of next season 2022. He sort of reminds me a bit of what Ferguson did in that final year, kept all the main layers on, went and got Van Persie who got him 26 league goals and then fell off a cliff etc. I mean if Thiago wasmeant to be that short term guarantor all you can say is it's epically failed thus far.

The back ups they've started buying, have ultimately fallen well short of the standard required as well. None of the lads you've mentioned there there, with the exception of Jota have really contributed, and Jota was a very expensive signing for a lad who will probably not reach 10 league goals. They look a squad in need a major work.

Around this time last season Guardiola recognised that the season was done. He started preparing for the next season. It took him a year to do so, and significant investment, but he got there in the end. Thats probably best case scenario here. Klopp writes the season off, breaks up the front 3 and starts preparing for next year. Even in said best case scenario, it probably wont be enough, as a poor first half of next season (Pep was lucky the season started late) will likely mean they wont do much next season, as City will be more comfortable. I aso doubt they will have £50m to go and spend on a player as good as Diaz & Cancelo to resolve difficulties. So 1 year turn around is optimistic. It could easily be 18 months- 2 years given the time it will take.

That is if Klopp makes the call now to do whts right. If he keeps flogging a dead horse, you just sense they go further down the rabbit hole and it takes longer to resolve.

The thing with Liverpool, is when it goes well, they are hard to shake off their path. I begrudgingly concede that. When it starts going badly though, the wheels come off in a spectacular manner. They went from 2nd under Benitez to 20th in the league in about 18 months. Had the court put them into admin, they'd have got relegated and gone bust that season under Hodgson. So it's going to be interesting to see when they lose momentum how they keep a lid on it. They've never been very good at that.

Half a job from Pickford FFS

This was over a week ago. He's in the gym, but his manager can't give any timelines for when he begins even light training. Lifting a few weights is really the easy bit of the process.

There were similar videos of Gbamin in November doing this. I'm not sure he's even got to light training with the team yet.

"I'm not the one to speak about this"....but does anyway.

The underlying message is also, btw, saying this: "I believe, like the fans and the media, that we are a one man team".

I dont think the rest of his first team will feel too enthused by that sentiment.

What I take from this, is his medical team are giving his much more cautious advise and he's really angry about it, and can't hold it in.

Yes, and he wants them put on the spot.

His true colours are shining through now.

I just think he can't control his anger.

An answer something akin to
"Virgil is recovering to schedule but has a long way to go, I know he and the medical team are doing all they can but there's no new progress to report currently" would have sufficed.

This.
They HAVE to win tonight. No other result is remotely good enough.
It's a bit different to being 18 points in front and getting every VAR call
and ref's decision going. Like you, I think they will (and should) win tonight
but if they need to keep doing it week in, week out against a few of the top teams
they will struggle. They are now finding out the hard way that winning the title is
the easy bit. Retaining it is the hard part.

You, United and Leicester winning has really piled the pressure on as well.

I've said a few times under Klopp, they have got close to 1 defeat away from implosion. I remember a Burnley game a while back was like that, and they got the win they needed and went on a winning run and would sneak into 4th.

This feels another moment like that for me. I mean a draw damages tem, but a defeat and it becomes a crisis, no doubt about it. With Mourinho's Spurs and West Ham to follow, it will not be easy.

I mean aside from Brighton, they haven't really got an easy game to come in the next 8 games or so. The season could really implode for them.

It would be hilarious if you lot won the CL and United won the league. Maybe us for the FA Cup.

He's Mr Nice Guy when all is going well; an utter walloper when it's not.
He's worse when they are winning.. smug git of a smile across his face. He's all fake praise for a team that had a go and attacked hammered them 5-0 but at least they had a go. He's much more entertaining when things go against them. Hopefully they'll lose tonight by a dodgy offside call in the 5th minute of 3 added minutes, his head will explode.
