I think the BBC wanted to make sure they didnt end up in that situation & as such they have created a new award which will be given to Rashford. "Sports person making a difference" or something like that.
I do find this very odd. It seems like any excuse not to have the standout black footballer on the list, over the white footballers who has very little in general by comparison.
I actually quite like Jordan Henderson. He seems like a nice bloke and I thoughed he owned up to his own racism/racist mistake very well with the Luis Suarez debacle. But he hasn't done anything like what Rashford has done for people.
Creating a new award is just the worst type of fudge agreement. It's not the traditional historical prize, but it's this new prize with no history. It's a pat on the head.
In the year of Black Lives Matter, it's pretty scandolous they've nominated an average white man, over an outstanding black one. If ever you want to grasp structural racism it's in that decision.
