ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

There were two things I learnt last night. 1. Even putting a pound on them (after Barca game) to win last night didn't put the mockers on them. Literally the first football bet I've ever won!!! 2. My new girlfriend is a closet red and her whole family are reds!! It is fair to say my mood on waking wasn't good today
fire her off mate, it won't end well, may as well call it a day early

Did they win or something?

Don't get me wrong - I would like to see Everton compete in and win this competition. However even if we did it would not bring me the same feeling of greatness and joy that winning the cup-winners cup brought in the 80s. I will explain why.

It's a micky mouse cup because it is now a diluted product simply designed to acquire cash from a bigger, maximised pool of supporters and fans. The European Cup was the pinnacle club competition in Europe - one which the rs won 4 times - good on them the vermin. To win that first you had to be champions, then you had to beat other champions.

However to maximise revenue the cherished competition was then opened up to include swathes of runners up. Now, as has been demonstrated, you can be 'called' champions by not having actually been a champion in 30 years, and beating a team that hasn't been a champion in nearly 60 years. Furthermore, in the process of getting to the runners up final you can actually be beaten.... A few times. Of course this keeps certain brands on show and maximises revenue.

It's the equivalent of saying - take an toen's intra-schools sports event. Rather than selecting the best runner in each school to compete, why not let everybody have a go and charge them each £1 entry. 5p goes in printing the participation certificate, 5p towards the winners, and the rest to the organisers.

If you can't see that this has become a micky mouse competition behind a facade of media hype (the same Murdoch media that profits, script writes and manipulates it) with the explicit aim not of sporting greatness, but of diverting vast swathes of hard earned money from the fans towards Murdich's empire, with his handsomely paid mercenaries, then i can recommend some interesting reading. Just google the story "the emperor's new clothes.'

Spot on.

Football in general has become less about the sport and more about the business and gambling/betting undertaken.

The levels are off the chart though in the European competitions, particularly the chumps league. The whole thing really became an irrelevance decades ago.

It's more akin to Wrestlemania than football. Pre arranged narratives that all the competitors tow the line with.

You cannot knock Liverpool this season. They have been class and probably the toughest team to beat this season. They are unlucky they have a team like Manchester City in the league, which on their day are better than Liverpool and on par with the best in the world. Regarding the Champions League. Well it’s probably harder to win nowadays, although you can afford to lose games, where as the old format you couldn’t afford to lose any. The old format was much much harder to get into because you had to WIN your league to qualify for it. None of this being the fourth best team in your country and qualifying for it. They need to change the name of the competition, because it’s certainly not The Champions League. It’s ironic that the old format was The Champions League. They should name it back to The European Cup, because that’s all it is now.

What did their fans do last night? My missus said to me this morning did you see what the Liverpool were doing last night. Apparantly playing up or summat. I didn’t watch the game. No way am I paying to watch a game that should be free to everyone with a TV licence.

It was free to people without a tv licence mate.
Free to watch in 4k hd on YouTube.

Ah, so it was. My mate text me on about it being on YouTube. Either way I’ve got no time for it. I’ve not watched one CL game for years since it moved to BT

The ’chumps league’? Surely you’d fall over yourself to win it? I know I would. To call it ‘chumps league’ just stinks of jealousy. When Apurs beat Ajax or Liverpool beat Barcelona, it didn’t have a ‘chump’ feel about it.

I dunno. I just have a feeling that if you had won it, you might not be posting how it’s the ‘chumps league’ that means nothing.

Everton where kicked out of competing in it because of having the unfortunate circumstance of being from the same country as the scum.

So in my eyes, the whole thing is a farce and a sham.
I have taken this stance since 1985/6 and will continue to do so.

Chumps League.
