They're not paid in statements, amortization is just a fairer way of costing a player.

A machine that's going to increase profit by 30k a year for 5 years and costs 100k.

If it's recorded immediately the company would make a 70k loss the first year before making 30 the next four. Which would obviously be misleading so the cost in the accounts will be 20k a year. But the money still leaves the company when they buy the machine.
I'm guessing clubs look at it like this, Turnover is the league and profit and player sales is minor like Goal Difference. :)

I think the Owners, CEO'S, Media care about turnover results and where they are in the Doilette table with other clubs.

When a club makes a profit that would otherwise be a very heavy loss than I think they treat it more seriously than goal difference.

I'm betting combined Barca Madrid and United made about £20-30 million profit between them, and the oil clubs City and PSG made a profit less than £10 million each.

The first 3 clubs are knee deep in debt at over a billion pounds combined and City and PSG have owners putting equity into the club to cover their losses every season so they don't fall foul of FFP.

Doubt any oil rich clubs are that worried about short term loses. The aim is to build clubs that dominate across Europe.

They are failing at that, Around 2.5 billion net spend since 2008 combined and they don't even have ONE european cup between them.

I guess they'll continue to spend their limitless dirty slavery owning blood money at the problem until it eventually happens.

Well City have won 3 league titles since 2008 and a 'double' twice in that time. Domestic susccess over a sustained period is what most teams will be aiming for, then adding European trophies. Man City, in that 10 years, have established themselves as one of the most successful teams in the world and certainly the most successful in England.

So jealous of the RS though

Who for all of their net spend statistics, have won a solitary League Cup in that time.

For me the biggest change is that previously players who were deemed surplus to requirements at Liverpool would go to City like Bellamy, Anelka and Fowler. Now players deemed not good enough for City go to Liverpool like Milner and Balotelli. Added to that the ability that City have to draw players away from Liverpool, like they did with Sterling, is a massive shift in the balance.
