Van dijk odds on for the Ballon D’or. I guess Ronaldo winning the league with Juve and an international trophy with Portugal counts for nothing. Bernardo Silva picking up a domestic treble and winning the nations league also overlooked. But a CL win against Spurs?! Carve his name on it.

To be fair to him, he's had a great season and I can think of far worse candidates for it.

I just don’t see what the criteria is? He’s had a good season and won one cup. There’s players who have had better seasons, won more trophies, and won at international level, so why is he favourite?

If he played for Spurs and won the CL he wouldn’t be considered. If Laporte had won the CL with City no one would have even mentioned his name for Ballon D’or. There’s just no criteria for it apart from which media approved player at media approved clubs has won something recently.
