Wishful thinking that it could happen to a club with a £500 million turnover, they are signing with Nike for a kit deal at £80-90 million a year, they are printing money under Klopp with these CL runs and title challengers and their present owners are ex wall street hedge funders instead of ex owners who between them financially ruined 4 sports teams including Montreal Canadiens, Texas Rangers and Palmeiras.
United have a debt of £650 million right now, Chelsea have a debt owed to Abramovich for £1.2 billion, and Spurs was just reported to have a debt of £700 million for stadium costs.
You think any of those clubs will do a "Leeds", all those clubs above plus Arsenal and City are going to be in a even more lucrative closed shop Champions League in 2024-2025.
Chelsea doing a Leeds is entirely dependant on Abramovich. Definite possibility no?
United, well not much chance of a Leeds, but they have been massively hamstrung by the debt. They've not done a Leeds but they've done an Arsenal. A couple more Sanchezes etc and the Leeds scenario isn't so crazy.
Spurs, no idea about their repayment plan but the increase in gate revenue should easily cover the repayments. Haven't really been relying on CL money either so probably wasn't a part of their budget plan. Naming rights to bring in a lot and they've got prime north london real estate to flog so should be ok really.
Liverpool's stratospheric wage bill is definitely worrying. i think it was a painful £243m in last years accounts and risen dramatically since then, they need to keep selling their best players to stay solvent. They'd have recorded a massive loss if they hadn't sold their best layer to Barcelona. For me, they are on the brink far more than the other 3. Which is a shame.
