in memoriam - 1965-2024
According to Mrs R, one of the subjects on this Fridays Mastermind is "History of EFC, from 1992(!)"

Anyone going to own up??!!

Ok, lads...let's see who gets this right without checking...

Introduction to question: when Tony Cottee left in 1994, he left as one of Everton's most successful goalscorers of all-time, with a goals/games ratio better than Joe Royle & Graeme Sharp and matched only by Bob Latchford (stipulation: colour-TV era and scoring more than 80 career goals...so no Roy Vernon or Lineker).

Question: Cottee played 6 seasons in all. How many of those seasons did he finish as the club's top scorer?

Mastermind Question: who, apart from Dixie Dean, has bettered that record? (hint: only two further players have been Everton's top scorer in more seasons than Tony Cottee in the entire 134-year history of Everton FC).

background to question:
these forums need more Cottee-love...he never seemed the fan favourite, somehow (probably because he wore his heart on a Hammers t-shirt)...yet his contributions to a mediocre team were top-class and worthy of nil satis nisi optimum.

Cottee was our main man when I was first becoming aware of footy. He was soon overshadowed by Duncan, but he was briefly the apple of a young Gwladys' eye.

Me arl' fella tells me he was a bit crap and only ever scored in draws and defeats.

Cottee was my idle in the early 90's when I was just learning to love Everton.

I had his side parting for about 6 years.

haha! snap, mate...i once went into a hairdressers with a picture of him and asked the nice lady to "do my hair like that, please".
