We just had a tiddly little 3.3 about 4 miles from where I live, just up in the mountains, at a depth of 0.3miles

Was on the 34th floor of a cairo tower block when a 5.6 hit once was so pissed it too me about 1 minute to realise what was going on. Everything wobbled a lot then the city disappeared in a cloud of dust

Pfft. 3.3 is nothing. Try living on the east coast where we get 5.8 earthquakes.

I have been through two big quakes spiker. One up in Washington which was a 6.8 and one in Hawaii which knocked all the power on the island out (it was a 6.7 and had several 6+ aftershocks)

The one we had this morning was a piffling little squeaker.

Proximity and depth can have as much a bearing on results as the actual magnitude,

I read as well that as it's not an equally increasing scale a 6.4 is something like 10,000 times more powerful than a 6.3.

That was shallow and close by though Dylan, is there any damage ?

A shallow magnitude 4 quake hit Christchurch this morning, within five kilometres of Lyttleton.
According to GeoNet, the quake struck at 7.01am at a depth of 8km.

The Christchurch City Council has decided to draw up options for a bylaw controlling the location of brothels and their advertising in the city.
Many central city brothels destroyed in the 22 February earthquake are having to relocate to the suburbs and the city council believes this could cause problems.
The new bylaw would allow the council to stop brothels relocating to and advertising in areas where they could cause a nuisance or serious offence to the public.
The New Zealand Prostitutes Collective says the bylaw would be an over- reaction because most suburban brothels are very discreet.
Council staff have until February next year to draft options for the bylaw, which will then go out for consultation.

I went out to San Francisco some years back with my Mam and Dad, for my brothers wedding. We went out for a few beers one night and then came back to the hotel, and hit the lobby bar. I retired to bed and about 5.00 am I was awoken by the wierdest feeling - the whole bed was like moving really funky, like I was on a water bed, then I noticed the whole room was kind of moving in all directions, not really shaking but more like heavy rippling. I then twigged it was an earthquake and legged it to my parent's room to see if they were okay, I ran in to be met with a wall of snoring!

"wake-up, wake-up I was screaming as the walls were shaking...and my arl fella opens one eye and says
"what's yer problem soft lad" and then promptly fell back to sleep!!!

Next morning they came down to breakfast, and the hotel lobby/restaurant area was a bit of a mess and they're like, "well what happened here like?"

I just shook my head and walked away - they had just slept through a sixer!!!
