Dunkerque is historically viewed as a victory (of sorts). Something like the rs not winning the cl this season only because they got knocked out.

Yes, that's how it was sold. In reality it was a massive defeat. The BEF got run out of France and kicked back across the channel. As said: a catastrophe.
